![]() August 15, 2009 by Wendy Ingram ![]() Maureen was born in Greeley, Colorado. Her Dad was a Woolworth manager and they moved around in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska before moving to Carlsbad, New Mexico when Maureen was ten.
They moved to Alamogordo and Maureen taught English and then Biology to ninth- and tenth-graders. They lived there for two years. Then they moved to Greenbelt, Maryland where Maureen substitute-taught, to Hampton, Virginia and then to Newport News, Virginia. By this time Maureen was a stay-at-home Mom to Greg and Scott and feels very fortunate to have been able to do this. This was her favorite job.
The family moved to Los Alamos in 1977 and since her kids were grown, Maureen went to work at the LAB for twelve years as a technical writer editor. She retired in 2003. They were homeless living in their cabin in the Jemez for a year before moving into their home in Placitas in 2005. Maureen's passions now are collecting miniature spoons which she has been doing since age ten; gardening, recycling (she has two recycling centers in her home), using the Rail Runner everywhere, reading, and she is on the Board of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Her fifteen minutes of fame has to be when she was the top saleswoman for Tupperware while raising her kids.

If she won the lottery, she would invest it and spend the earnings helping her kids, donate to NAMI and supporting the arts. The person Maureen most admires is her mother-in-law. She was just an amazing woman who was so giving. She cheerfully woke up every morning, helping her family of five children get started for the day. She took a fifteen-minute power nap in the afternoon and was raring to go for the rest of the day. She and her husband took in a challenging foster boy who had just graduated from high school. He is still considered a member of the family - because of her his life turned around. Maureen and Rob took a Mediterranean cruise last year to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. It was supposed to be with one other couple but ended up with eight other couples for seventeen days. It was a great time. Things she wouldn't want to live without are coffee, looking out her living room windows, her garden, her computer, and books. Her favorite TV program was Ozzie and Harriet. Some of Maureen's pet peeves are people who throw trash out their car windows and people who are self-centered. Besides
Jardineros, Maureen walks twice a week with her "walking
