All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

Vigil for Peace  - Update May 26, 2009

Dear Just4peace members,
Regardless of who you voted for this past November, I think we can all agree that there is a new sense of hope that fills the air with the inauguration of President Obama. With the Bush administration to soon hit the curbside, Americans are wanting relief from our current economic crisis and are demanding change more than ever before. While there was a time that people speaking out against the war were deemed "unpatriotic" ,that time has ended. Thanks to peace groups across the country, disapproving of the war is no longer a dirty secret and now the country overwhelmingly supports ending the war in Iraq. While there is still much work to be done in bringing our troops home, the tide has turned to the point that Americans feel free to voice their opinions.

Just4peace will be taking a hiatus as we observe how the Obama administration is going to handle the war in Iraq.  During this hiatus we will continue to keep you informed of any local events that we think you may find of interest. We request that you keep us updated of any email address changes so that we can keep you in touch with any new developments in the peace front that may require the peace community to respond in a timely, organized manner.  If the grassroots peace groups had been as organized 6 years ago as it is today, maybe we could've stopped the War in Iraq before it was started. For that reason it is important to stay organized and be prepared to speak up as a united voice across the country.

If you are interested in attending peace vigils in the Baltimore area, Women in Black hold regular vigils in the Baltimore and Towson area . wibbaltimore@hotmail.com     United for Peace and Justice also keeps a continuous calendar of events which lists vigils in the Maryland area.  http://www.unitedforpeace.org/calendar.php

Thank you all for having the ability to see what is going on in the world and having the courage to speak out against what is wrong when others watch silently.

    Keep speaking out for peace,

Mike and Susan
