Tips on wood splitting

Oak splits better than hickory
Hickory burns better than oak
Use an eight pound mall if a ten pounder is not available
Use a six pound mall if an eight pounder is not available
Don't be a crybaby
Use at least two wedges....one to get the other wedge unstuck.
Don't be a big wussy....keep chopping, but take a break now and again.
Make something creative out of the big pieces.
Don't let anything rot in place without making some effort at using it. 
Always wear thick work gloves.
