Mar 12 2004 - I started on the oil cooler mounting. The cooler is a Stewart-Warner 10599R. I started by using a .125 angle to beef up the corner joint and pick up the mounting screw.

The cooler is mounted flat to the back baffle, I'll make the bolt spacers shortly, the screws shown are just for fitting. The RH flange does not use the lower bolt hole.

I mounted the cooler as far outboard and as far upward as possible. Keep an eye on the engine mount clearance and the cowl clearance. I have at or better than 1/2" on both those items.

The baffle is reinforced with an .062 plate that is bent around the flange. I'll pick up the flange with a support angle to an engine case bolt shortly. The plate will be riveted to the baffle parts when I do final assembly. I'll also make some plates top and bottom to seal the gap you see.

Mar 13 2004 - Here are the parts with a coat of primer on the surface that is trapped.

Just about ready to install. The seals at the top and bottom of the cooler will still require some RTV since you are trying to seal up against a weld.

Mar 14 2004 - One last support for the oil cooler mount. I wanted to tie in to the bolt just below the engine mount. This provided an enormous amount of added rigidity.

The plate just picks up the bolt hole, and also mounts the 1/8" spacer that makes the fit much better.

Here it is installed. I'll decide later whether a brace up above the cylinders will be added.
