With the tanks removed, I riveted the leading edges on for good. Unlike all other builder web sites (or so it seems), this was *not* easy! I goofed up several rib to spar rivets on each wing. Van's recommended LP3 or CherryMax rivets since drilling out just makes it worse each time as I found out - not wanting to admit defeat! I ordered some CherryMax and proceeded.

So, did all you other builders just breeze through this - is it just me???

Duckworks light installation. Went smoothly just like the plans indicate. I have some SS socket head cap screws that I am going to replace the bracket/rib screws with to ease adjustments.

Another light shot but of the lens this time. I thought about fitting the lenses with relief cuts for the part that rides against the skin, resulting in a flush lens with the wing skin. Maybe a project for sometime down the road when I'm bored...... (yeah right)

Tanks fit back to the wing along with the top skins. The skins are ready to be riveted on.

I had some help from a friend and started the skin riveting. It is coming out very good. We'll continue in a day or two.

We finished up the riveting of the top skins on the LH wing tonight. Sure looks good without all those clecoes!

Jul 10 2002 Today I riveted the aileron brackets to the wing, prepped the aileron gap seal and flap braces and installed the gap seal. I then hung the aileron, you can see here the straight edge used to verify alignment.

Here is the inboard aileron hinge. At this time the hinges are bolted on with #6 screws until I am completely satisfied with the fit. Then I'll drill for the AN3 bolts.

The flap brace temporarily installed. I'm going to fit the flap next and then go back to the ailerons and final drill the bracket bolts if the alignment remains perfect.

Jul 11 2002 I spent an inordinate amount of time (5 hrs) fitting the flap and getting everything lined up. I'm not so sure pre-punching the flap brace is such a good idea. You are pretty limited in making adjustments without the latitude of drilling your own holes.

Unlike some reports on the list which needed to shorten the brace, I could have used a little more length.
