Oct 24 2003 - After joining the front and rear halves of the wheel pants, I fit them to the gear. I can see that getting these finished perfectly is going to take some time.

Oct 30 2003 - Jumping around a bit, here is the clevis attachment to the throttle quadrant. Take note - Vans service bulleting only instructs you to install a washer on the middle pin. A washer is required under all three pins! You also want to keep the outer pins away from the inner pin.

Here is the cable attach end. The clevis ends thread on as far as possible and these attach points need to go as far forward as possible. Thread the nut on the aft side only enough to engage the threads full depth. Note that the metal barrels extend forward into the gear boxes. See the note in the next picture for the implications of this.

The plans have you drill a single 1" hole in the box for all three cables. How in the heck will that work? The cables are not going to flex one bit since they are still at the metal barrel when they hit the box. Just drill three individual holes unless you want one super large triangular hole.

Oct 31 2003 - The gear leg fairings have the hinges glued and riveted in place.

Nov 14 2003 - Working on the elevator tips. I made a leading edge cap from balsa and glassed over that. Here is an application of epoxy and micro-balloons trying to get the curve to match the counterweight skin.

Here is the RH stab tip. I also used balsa and glass cloth to plug the back end. This has already had an application of epoxy/micr-balloons applied. I need to work on the seam with the stab skin a little more.
