Sep 1 2003 - I mounted the ELT antenna where many others are - under the fiberglass tail fairing. The vertical and horizontal stabs are on for good barring any unforeseen setbacks.

A shot down the tail cone. Along the back bulkhead is the ELT coax. It is hard to see under the elevator pushrod, but the ELT and tail lighting wires run down the center bottom. The compass wiring and static tubing run along the middle auxiliary longeron.

Here all the wires run down the RH rib and are secured with Adel clamps.

As the transition is made to the center fuselage, I'll route the wires to the outer wall and secure with more Adel clamps. I still have some clamps to mount here. The static tubing makes basically the same run but on the other side.

Sep 14 2003 - I have begun wiring the panel. First up is the intercom pigtail. Progress is slow at this point since there are many places where I need other components mounted first to know what space is left for wiring runs and holes.

The GX65 has been wired as well. The wires will get tie wrapped along the bottom lip of the tray. I'm also using lacing cord for some of the wire bundles.

I'm still looking for places to mount the encoder and ACS sensor unit. I have a question in to Vans that might help the decision. The plans warn not to remove any material from the aft crossmember. I want to attach a bracket, but I'm not sure if drilling a few holes is permitted.

Sep 17 2003 - The word from Vans is that some holes in the cross member are no problem. Here are the brackets I made to hold the ACS analog box.

Here the box is mounted. I'll mitigate the access issues in two ways. First is that removing the panel unit is easy with my access panel. When removed, the analog box is now right behind the 6 x 4 inch opening. The other mitigation plan is to have enough service loop in the wiring that the box can be pulled into the baggage compartment for access, or it can be dropped straight down for access. I have a call in to get a smaller cable - 5 ft is a little long for a 6" span.

Sep 22 2003 - I mounted the altitude encoder on the baggage bulkhead. It has since been wired up to the GTX327 transponder and powered up. The altitude displayed looked right, but I need to verify each bit of the Gray code and see that the transponder reads the correct altitude.

Here the GX65 wiring is complete, the comm antenna and transponder antennas are in as well. I can try out this wiring after I get the mic and headphone jacks in and wired up.
