At last, the first strip in place. AKA the sheer strip. Note the glue bottle in the picture. These bottles are basically worthless. Steal a youngsters Elmer's bottle (you know, the one with the pointed tip) and use it instead. Be sure to use woodworkers glue or waterproof glue in the bottle (not the white glue). |

It is hard to see in the picture, but you simply cut a bevel on each piece and miter the joints at the tip (see the clamp).

Follow the directions on oneoceankayaks.com for the
construction process here. I found that the strips began to lift from
the forms pretty dramatically with the keel. I am not sure what the cause
was, maybe the new design of the boat? Never the less, forge ahead and
deal with it!!

Note the gap in the keel that does not have a strip installed. I will cut this out later and install another strip. |

This shows where I have cut out the space for the strip
to complete the transition. The flexible Japanese saw is indispensable
in the construction of a kayak.
