Kayak Pages (Cont.)

I am a little out of sequence with these pages but when you think about it, there is no real clear way to present this information.

Installing the stem bands on the deck.

Make sure it is tight! and use lots of tape.

Don't worry if the tape leaves a residue on the finished hull,a little lacquer thinner removes it with ease. Don't use acetone! Acetone will dissolve the epoxy!!

Another view of the stem band. It is hard to see but I cut a small wedge to fit in the very tip. This enabled me to plane the transition and then glue on the bands.

Here you can see how I have transition back to using a cove and bead on the 3/8" strips.

Use c-clamps to assure that the joints between the butt-joints are level. If you don't, you will have a lot of planing and sanding ahead of you.

On this strip I decided that I needed to sped up the process a bit. I went back to the 5/8" strips. You can see by the bend that I had BEAR of a time with it. I soon switched back to the 3/8" strips until the major bends were gone. Then I transitioned back to the 5/8" strips.
