A guy posted a message on a metalworking
newsgroup I frequent, asking if
anyone could make him a "spoon ring", saying he had a photo of the ring.
He said that his girl friend lost the one he'd given her ...... down a public
toilet no less. The ring was made from the flattened bowl of a cheap
stainless steel restaurant spoon.
With a story like that, I was
hooked. I told him to send me the picture.
Here's what he sent:

Next photo shows the ring I made for
him, some of the tools I used, and
the cardboard
"flattened spoon" pattern I made by
measuring one of our kitchen spoons.
The ring was made by bending an 18
gage sheet silver cutout around a piece of 3/8 inch
iron pipe wrapped
with duct tape to the lady's finger size.
I used my
dad's old rawhide jeweler's hammer.. It felt real good to have it in my
hand.
The project took less than an hour.

Closeups of the finished ring are
below....
It's adjustable too...

Postscript:
In 2005 our daughter Julie asked me to make a similar ring for her,
which I did. I'm proud to see she wears it all the time.
