Why use the WKRP Reading Program?

WKRP is a multi-sensory, rule governed, closed-ended program. WKRP uses a language of instruction that reaches even the language disordered student. It is also compatible with other programming, i.e., Project Read, Reading Recovery and whole language reading programs.

Methodology

WKRP uses direct, explicit instruction in Population - WKRP is used successfully in Grades K-12. Because it is a developmental model, it can be used as curriculum in grades K-2. WKRP reaches a diverse population. Teachers can use this one program for regular education, ESL, and for children with language based reading difficulties.

Usage - Teachers in many areas in the USA are using WKRP programs. Teachers consistently report that they have found the techniques easy to learn and easy to apply. In addition, teachers can continue to use WKRP even if they move to different grade levels.

Replication - WKRP is located in the Boston area. If desired, training and follow-up can be done by WKRP trainers in your facility, ensuring quality control. Certificates of Competence are issued to educators who successfully complete training.

Support - School systems often request us to attend mediation and/or hearings to explain the programming. This has resulted in favorable outcomes for the school systems.

Expense - WKRP training is less expensive than other published programs. In addition, the same materials are used across all grade levels, eliminating the need for costly, leveled materials.

Availability - In response to requests from other professionals we have made our materials and techniques available as a complete teaching program called "Reading By The Rules".
