Teacher Workshops
Introduction to Imaging (2 Hours)
Imaging and visualization is a language processing strategy that teaches
children to interact verbally with new information. This ensures that the
material presented is understood, organized, and available for retrieval.
Imaging teaches children memory strategies, linkage strategies, and interpretive
and deductive reasoning skills.
Learning the Visual Alphabet (1 Hour)
Designed specifically for the student who has had difficulty mastering
alphabet letter names traditionally. This innovative approach combines
mnemonic or visual cues and storytelling to provide a means of retrieving
letter names. Students report that it is a "fun way" to learn the alphabet.
New Approaches to Learning Vocabulary (2 Hours)
An interesting approach to teaching strategies for learning new vocabulary.
Through the use of word analysis, visual cues, storytelling and imaging,
students are able to learn and retain the meanings of new vocabulary words.
This approach has been a successful intervention for children with language
learning difficulties.
A Novel Approach to Learning Parts of Speech (1 Hour)
A visual approach that not only teaches the definitions of the parts of
speech themselves, but demonstrates how they interact with each other.
Through the use of a baseball game, abstract concepts become concrete.
Teaching Techniques for Comprehension and Writing Narrative (fiction) Form
(2 Hours)
For the student who reports that he doesn't "understand what he reads"
or has trouble with written expression. This approach applies visualization
strategies to expand understanding of the story schema. Students learn
to effectively chunk language to enhance organization of material and more
effectively relate components. The student can then develop understanding
of the how's and why's of the author's intent.
