A Call to War - The U.S. response to terrorism in the wake of the WTC attacks

Yesterday was a day that will alter the course of American history.

Today, many people are calling for prayers, they are calling for blood donations, they are calling for volunteer support.

I would like to add a few more items to this list of requests...

I ask of you all - do not forget. I have no inclination to "turn the other cheek" today...nor will I tomorrow.

I say to you all - let not your anger cool. Anger is a powerful tool of motivation. Motivation is the lever of action. Action - swift, determined, uncompromising action - is the need of the day.

I implore of you all - after you call the Red Cross to donate blood, do not put the phone down. Call your Congressman, your Senators, and your President. Tell them all that you will not forget. Tell them all that you have been violated. Tell them all that you will support them in whatever decision that they make, as long as it is a decision of action.

This is the watershed event of our generation. It cannot be overstated. The time has come to ask ourselves at what point do we decide we have had enough? At what point do we decide we will act with the courage of our convictions? At what point do we decide that being a free member of the greatest society the world has ever known is more valuable than anything else we possess?

Will we simply roll over, play the game for a while, and deal with this as a criminal process, with well publicized man-hunts and un-satisfying and inconclusive trials...until it happens again, or will we, finally, treat it like the act of war it is?

On December 7th, 1941, 2388 soldiers, sailors, and civilians of the United States lost their lives at Pearl Harbor.

On June 6th, 1944, 2500 soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the United States lost their lives in the Invasion of Normandy.

On September 11th, 2001, over 3500 (est.) Mothers, Fathers, Children, and brave police, firefighters, and emergency response personnel lost their lives in the attack on America.

This was an act of war - it was calculated for maximum impact, and carried out with military precision and coordination.

Do not tell the shadow armies of the world that they can do this to our nation and survive. Do not tell them they can threaten our freedoms, our way of life, and murder thousands of our fellow citizens without consequence. Do not allow those who harbor these butchers and give succor to their cause to sit back and smirk in the confidence that we lack the moral fiber and political will to defend ourselves.

Isolationism will not work, wishful thinking will not work, inaction due to fear will not work.

Freedom, is not free.

I will be calling my congressmen and Senators today. I will be calling the White House today.

Today, September 12th, 2001, I will be asking my government for a War level military campaign against Osama Bin Laden and his Islamicist allies, just as Jefferson asked for similar powers against the Barbery Coast Pirates in 1790. I will tell them that if the "Government" of Afghanistan attempts to interfere, then we should level a Declaration of War against them as an ally of evil. I suggest that all Americans do the same.
