Prototype Information

The Erie Lackawanna Historical Society is an active group of fans of the railroad, which publishes an excellent semi-annual society magazine called The Diamond. In addition to The Diamond, the Society publishes a quarterly newsletter and sponsors regional conventions. Their website is www.erielackhs.org.

An invaluable collection of photos and information on the Erie Lackawanna, and many other railroads, is George Elwood's Fallen Flags site.  George has compiled a huge collection of photos and information about the EL, and adds to his site daily.

The Erie Lackawanna e-mail list is an informal group of fans who share knowledge and stories about the railroad.  Some very knowledgable and helpful people participate in the on-line exchanges, providing a fascinating insight into the history and people of the EL.  Subscribe to the Erie Lackawanna Mailing List here .

A compilation of EL resources on the Internet is available at the Railfan.net .

Photos from ABPR, the Usenet railroad group, is archived by Railfan.net at

Other Model Railroads

Lee Nicholas has developed several innovative layout construction and operation ideas.  He is the inspiration for the Mole operation -- "Op 'til you drop" sessions on the HO scale Utah Colorado Western are legendary, and are not possible without the Mole feature.  He also refined spline roadbed construction, and on his railroad Kelly Newton has developed a quick and very effective scenery construction technique.  He was also the first customer of Rail-Lynx, the infra-red wireless command control system.  His Utah Colorado Western site is worth a visit.

Henry Freeman is using his expertise in prototype research to design and construct an impressive HO-scale rendition of the Baltimore and Ohio Cumberland Division in 1956.  Scott Dunlap has created a site which chronicles the progress of this huge layout.

Craig Bisgeier is modeling the Housatonic Railroad in the late 1800s.  He has developed innovative techniques for dealing with the challenges of modelling an era where few off-the-shelf models are available.

Miscellaneous

Rail-Lynx is an infra-red command control system which provides wireless control of individual locomotives and allows very realistic operation.

The NMRA provides a wide range of services and hosts regional and national conventions each year.
