The Adoption Journey

We traveled many roads to get to this destination.

There isn't one single reason why we choose to adopt. I can't even say that there was a pivotal moment in time when it hit us "let's adopt". It's been a slow, evolving, educated, emotional process. But one thing is for sure, when we started to do the research about adoption and specifically adoption from China, the pull that we felt and the connection to this unknown child was unmistakable and couldn't be ignored. That's when we knew, the journey had begun.

It was some time, approximately three years ago when we were living in Europe when Tom and I more seriously talked about family and what we wanted it to "look like". We were very happy with our dogs and very happy with each other. But we felt more and more like we wanted to add a child to our family and felt that we had a lot of love to give. We had already talked about adoption on and off again. It was part of our discussions early in our marriage. But we both wanted to enjoy our small family (us and the dogs) and didn't feel the need to rush into any decisions. Some decisions just shouldn't be rushed. So we talked a bit more and eventually decided that once we return to the states we would begin the adoption journey.

So it was. Back in April, 2002 Tom and I entered the building of our adoption agency, Associated Services for International Adoption and began the mountain of paperwork that would eventually map out the path to the future Baby Sedory.
