(near Detroit)

It may look like a giant tree, but it's actually
a cell tower disguised as a tree to appease
township residents.  (larger image)

The township board nixed a cell tower at this
location, so the cell company had to get creat-
ive with their installation.  (larger image)

From this direction, it looks like "just-another-
tree" in the woods, except maybe just a shade
taller.  (larger image)

If you look closely, you can almost see the
antennas "sprouting-out" between the
branches.  (larger image)

In West Bloomfield, Michigan (my QTH), which is a suburb of Detroit, they don't care very much for antennas. It doesn't matter what there for, "they just don't want to see them". When a local cellular company wanted to put up another tower in a conspicuous location, township officials made them disguise the antenna so it blended-in with the surroundings. My wife says that this is the "stupidest" thing that she has ever seen. You can imagine their attitude toward "ham radio" antennas.
