I have been a FCC licensed amateur radio operator since 1989, and been active in many different forms of digital and packet radio. I am a member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the Pottstown Area Amateur Radio Club (PAARC).
My father( SK) was licensed as WA3EEP and then KV4CS. He had a general license and loved 20 meters. My parents moved to the Virgin Islands and lived there for over 30 years before moving back to our family home in Pennsylvania.
I served our country by enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard and served from 1968 to 1973. I was stationed in Boston, MA., on a Weather Cutter for two years and then spent the remaining time in Providence, RI., at the COTP (USCG Captain of the Port) office in the Custom House. See: My Time in the USCG.
After the Coast Guard I joined J. F. Moran in Boston, as a ships agent for about two years. Then we moved to St. John, USVI, and I worked for my father. My father, KV4CS (SK) had a lucrative 2-way radio business having multiple US government contracts with the US Customs, US National Park System, US Immigration and Naturalization and Antilles Air Boats. We sometimes installed marine SSB systems on "world sail boats" that left the mainland with out them. Back then I was the tower/pole climber mounting or repairing antennas. The views were incredible of the blue water, the sail boats and the other islands from the top of many of the towers I worked on.
Prior employment includes, over 23 years at Boston University Medical Center , in Boston, MA. and four years at Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, PA.
My last Employer:- Ursinus College, one of the nations top 50 national liberal arts colleges in the East. I was employed here at Ursinus College, in Collegeville, PA., from 1999 to 2008. I worked in the IT department, starting as a network administrator, then I specialize in mobile computing support. I also helped establish and maintained the laptop initiative program, at Ursinus.
I have always been around the water while growing up. My parents moved to Florida when I was 11, and then to the U.S. Virgin Islands when I was 15 years old. So, I was comfortable with things like water skiing, diving, sailing, fishing and surfing. My wife and I have a 14 foot Oday sail boat, and when we get the chance tow it up to Lake Nockamixom and relax on the water.
I have since retired (June 2008) and have been enjoying life. I recommend it to everyone! I love working in our vegetable garden and love just working in the yard. Both Mary Ann and I enjoy traveling, sailing and just being on our property. I have three daughters all of whom live in the Boston area, and a proud grandfather of three wonderful grandchildren.
