Bond, Inventory, Vol 24:27: (19 Sep 1775)
Plymouth ss:
Pursuant to a Warrant from the Hon'ble John Cushing, Esq., Judge of
Probate of Wills and for granting of letters of Administration here for
and within our County of Plymouth by us the subscribers to take an appraisement
of the real and personal estate of Mr. Jonathan Hatch late of Scituate
dec'd. We have taken a view of the same as followeth:

Plymouth ye September the 19th A.D. 1775. Then Jonathan Hatch,
Administrator made oath that the above written inventory contained all
the estate of ye Jonathan deceased that he knows of and that when he shall
know of more he will give it in. The said appraisers being also sworn which
inventory being examined is allowed by Jno Cushing, Judge, Probate.

To Mess.: Samuel Oakman of Marshfield, yeoman, Seth Hatch of Pembroke, gentleman & Israel Hatch of Scituate, yeoman, all in the County of Plymouth aforesaid.
You are hereby Impowered and directed to take a view of the Real Estate
which Jonathan Hatch late of Scituate aforesaid, yeoman, deceased died
seized of in Plymouth county and assign and set off to Rachel Hatch Widow
of the said Jonathan deceased her Dower in and to real & personal Estate
being a third part thereof including land & building quantity &
quality considered by meets and bounds so that she may improve the same
in severality during her natural life & make return of this warrant
with your doings thereon upon oath as soon as you can. Given under my hand
& seal of office at Pembroke in said County ye first day of April A.D.

Vol 24: 325-26: Dower: (11 Apr 1776)
Pursuant to a Warrant from the Hon'al William Lever Esq Judge of the Probate of Wills & for granting letters of Adm'n for & within our County of Plymouth to us the Iu____onben (?) directed to take a view of the real and personal Estate which Jonathan Hatch late of Scituate yeoman dec'd died seized of and assign & set off to Rachel Hatch Widow of Jonathan Dec'd her right of Dower therein we have this day taken a view of the same & have set off to said Rachel three peices of land & two peices of meadow with the east room of the house, the chamber above the same, a Buttery, half of the cellar with a privelege in over to bake in the kitchen & to wash in the Kitchen with the half of the hog stye & a priveledge to lay fire wood at the door & Pig (?) To run at the same with a pass and repass to the well. And the land is bounded as follows: the first peice of land containing about twelve acres be the same more or less & begineth at the south east corner of the house and then runs southerly & easterly with the fences at the way before the Dosa(?) On the fence now Hand about Ten Rods tell it comes against an apple tree handing east Eighteen degrees South Nine Rods from the So. Southeast corner of the house and then runs North to the land that Jonathan Hatch bought of John Lapham then running easterly to the highway then south then southerly with said way till it comes to the Home lot of Elijah Crooker then running easterly & southerly with said lot till it comes to the Southeast corner of said Crooker House Lot then with the same runing till it comes to the mowing ground fence is called then running easterly & southerly with said fence till it comes to the orchard fence & then with the orchard fence on the North side & can't end till it comes to the house first named. The second peice of land is about six acres of woodland & is bounded as follows: beginning at a stake & stones standing seventeen rods westerly from the southeast corner of said dec'd homestead being a white oak tree in the range of Benj'a Hatches land & then runs north from said white oak tree twenty six rods to a stake and stones standing about four feet to the north of a white oak marked tree then runs west till it comes to the pastuer fence then southerly & easterly with the pasture & field fence as it now stands till it comes to the stake & stones first named in said lot of wood. The third peice of land is an orchard & contains about three acres & is part of the land that the dec'd bought of Joshua Lapham & is bounded with said orchard fence on every side as the fence now stands. The fourth peice is about two acres & half of meadow & the same more or less and lyeth at the west end of Joshua Lapham's land & is bounded on the North side with the meadow of the heirs of Abner Crooker dec'd the west end with the North River on the south side & east end with the meadow & land of Joshua Lapham. The fifth & last peice is about 3 quarters & half quarter of meadow land & is bounded as followeth: beginning at the corner of said dec'd meadow at the North River _________ ditch & Dam runs east twenty-nine degrees North Ten Rods & sixteen links to a ditch then north with a ditch twenty-five Degrees west twelve rods to the Mill Creek then west twenty nine Degrees South twelve rods wanting two links to the North River then with the river southerly to the first corner. The five peices of land and meadow with that part of the house, hog stye then bounded & described as above said we assign & set off out of the real estate of said dec'd unto ye said Rachel as her full right of Dower of third quantity & quality considered. We also have assigned & set off out of the personal estate as many household goods & meat cattle to the amount of thirty three pounds four shillings and one penny it being the full third part of said personal Estate which she has received of the administrator & gave him a receipt for the same and in testimony to the forewritten Dower or third of the estate before named we have hereunto set our hands the 11th day of April Anno domino 1776. /s/ Samuel Oakman, Seth Hatch, Israel Hatch.

having made oath that their assignment of dower to Rachel Hatch widow of
Jonathan Hatch is just according to their best skill & judgement. I

To the Hon'bl William Lever Esq. Judge of Probate of Wills & for granting letters of administration for the county of Plymouth the account of Jonathan Hatch, Adm'r to the Estate of Jonathan Hatch late of Scituate dec'd humbly offers for allowance.
In the first place the admin'r charged himself with the whole of the
inventory the sum of 191 pounds 18 shillings and 10 pennys.

Vol 25 p. 325: Decree: (2 Jul 1778)
Plymouth ss:
By the Hon. Joseph Cushing Esq., Judge of the Probate of Wills and granting of Letters of Administration on the Estates of Persons deceased dying intestate in the county of Plymouth.
Whereas it has been recommended and made appear to me that the Real Estate of Jonathan Hatch late of Scituate in the county of Plymouth, yeoman, deceased being appraised at the sum of Seven Hundred Ninety pounds, lawful money, as by the inventory of his estate duly exhibited into the probate office of this county appion/ ?) cannot be divided to and among his children and heirs without great injustice to or spoiling the whole which children & heirs are: Elisha, Jonathan, Mark, Zacheus, Phillips, Prince, James, Fredrick, Briggs, Lucy Joyce, Egarthy [Agatha] Crooker, Jerusha Crooker, Thankful Jones, Lydia Perkins, & Rachel Hatch who have requested me to settle the whole of said Estate on said Jonathan second son of the said Jonathan deceased. He paying thereout to the other children their proportional parts of the value of said Real Estate pursuant to said appraisal.
I do therefore, hereby, by virtue of the law of this state Decree, order, assign, and settle the whole of said Real Estate, to and upon the said Jonathan, his heirs & assigns forever excepting the estate & right of dower which Rachel Hatch, widow of said Jonathan deceased hath. Wherein, he the said Jonathan paying to the said Elisha the eldest son sixty-five pounds sixteen shillings & eight pence being his double share therein and eight pence therein & to Mark, Zackeus, Phillips, Prince, James, Frederick, Briggs, Lucy Joyce, Egarthy Crooker, Jerusha Crooker, Thankful Jones, Lydia Perkins & Rachel Hatch unto their legal representatives each the sum of Thirty-two pounds eighteen shillings and four pence legal money upon demand being their single shares therein and the further sum of Thirty-Two pounds eighteen shillings & four pence to the said Elisha & sixteen pounds nine shillings & two pence to each of the other heirs as above named at the said widows decease the summ being their proportional shares of the value of said Real Estate excepting said dower allowing to said Jonathan second son of the deceased his single share therein.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal of office this Second day of July Anno Domini 1778. /s/ Jos. Cushing.
