Classes at Kala Nivedanam
Kala Nivedanam is in the process of shifting its central location from the
residence and home studio of Ms. Cooley and Dr. Mahadevan, to a new location
in Bellevue. Until this transition is completed, classes will be held at
the Global Education Center, located at 4822 and 4820 Charlotte Avenue.
Classes are offered between September and May with new sections added only
in September. An annual school recital is held at the end of the year, on
the third Saturday in May.
Bharatanatyam
All classes are taught personally
by Monica Cooley. Class sizes are kept manageably small with individual
attention given to each student. Students progress from year to year with
other students of their own level. Students joining Kala Nivedanam with
prior dance experience are placed in classes suitable to their level.
Private instruction is available only to senior students getting ready
for their arangetram or transfer students needing extra help to join an
existing class. Classes are offered at several locations on seven days
of the week as follows:
- Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays at the
central location
- Wednesday evenings in Murfreesboro,
TN
- Thursday evenings in Brentwood, TN
- Monday evenings at Vanderbilt University.
These Bharatanatyam classes, which are offered through the Vanderbilt
Dance Program, are open to Vanderbilt students, faculty, staff
and the general public over the age of 16. Classes run by semester
from Sept. to Dec. and Jan. to April. Two sections are offered: Beginning
and Intermediate/Advanced
Carnatic vocal music
All classes are taught personally by Dr.
Sankaran Mahadevan. Group classes are offered at various levels from Beginning
to Advanced at the central location. Private instruction is available
only to a few advanced students.
