CHOREOGRAPHER
Monica has learned the principles of choreography in
the Bharatanatyam idiom from her gurus, the Narasimhachiris, who are renowned
for their original, complex and beautiful works.
In addition to creating numerous solo and group dances
for her students in several Indian languages, Monica has worked in collaboration
with other Nashville arts organizations such as the Nashville Children's
Theater for whom she set Bharatanatyam-based movements on their production
of The Ramayana. For the Sri Ganesha Temple, she choreographed
a short half-hour work entitled, "Bhajana Mala" using popular
bhajans sung regularly by devotees of the temple. For the Vanderbilt
Dance Group, she choreographs a new piece every semester for presentation
in VDG's biannual concerts.
In choreography, teaching and performing, Monica is
always guided by the example of her gurus and remains ever willing to
grow and develop as an artist.
