Amy and Libby Rust teach our youngest skiers, the Treasure Trailers. Amy and Libby are 1999 recipients of
the Professional Ski Instructors of America's Service to Youth Award which
recognizes excellence in Youth and children's ski instruction. They received the Ski Magazine
"Instructor of the Year Award". Both have extensive background working with children as educational professionals,
as ski coaches who developed the curriculum we use, and as swim coaches.
They hold PSIA level-III certifications in Alpine and Nordic. |

Sarah is an assistant coach for Treasure Trails. She started skiing as a Treasure Trailer at age four,
and has been skiing every winter since with the JNP. She is looking forward to her first year as an instructor.
Sarah is a freshman at Roosevelt High School, and when not skiing enjoys playing soccer. |

Glenn coaches Little Nords. Glenn joined the corps of instructors at Summit Nordic Center in 1989.
After several years teaching for the Seattle Country Day School Friday program, Glenn joined the Junior Nordic Program.
This January, Glenn celebrates his 34nd year of skiing; ski mountaineering in the spring and summer is his favorite way to
spend time on skis. |

Roschele coaches Little Nords. Roschele began skiing in 1993 during her college
internship for a wilderness program in AK. She has been a Nordic ski instructor for
several years including 2 seasons with Jr Nordic in Anchorage, AK. Her love of teaching
goes beyond the snow and into the classroom as a HS special ed. teacher and
on the mat teaching children Aikido. Off season, Roschele may be found
exploring the mountains with her Siberian Husky "Kavik" or paddling the Puget Sound in her sea-kayak.

Shannon coaches Little Nords. Shannon has taught skiing for so many years that she’s afraid to add them up!
Shannon was the director of the Junior Nordic Program from 1996-2005. After taking a year off, she found that she just couldn’t stay away, and so she returned to coach the Little Nords.
Shannon holds a PSIA level-III Nordic certification as well as a
level-I Telemark certification, and a level-III Alpine certification. |

Helen coaches Little Nords. Helen started skiing when she learned to walk, and has been skiing ever since.
She started skiing with JNP in Treasure Trails at age five and has been in every class up from there.
She began instructing in a children's downhill ski program 3 seasons ago and
began coaching for the JNP last year.
She looks forward to continuing to instruct and become a full-fledged ski bum.
Helen is a sophomore at Ballard HS and plays piano, French horn, and soccer when she isn't skiing.

Paulina coaches Little Nords. When Paulina was three years old, her
Grandma put her on skis in the snowy Russian winter, and she's been
skiing ever since. A recent transplant to the PNW from the East Coast,
Paulina is in her first year of coaching in the JNP. She also teaches
downhill skiing at Alpental, and in her spare time enjoys telemarking
in the backcountry, as well as all kinds of climbing. In the past,
Paulina was a researcher in computer science and robotics.

Alan coaches Little Nords. He taught nordic skiing at the Summit in the 1990s
and returned to coach in 2008 after almost a decade hiatus to travel, go to graduate school, and have two kids.
Now the kids are skiing and he is excited to be teaching again. He has also been a swim coach,
a docent at a biological preserve, a big-wall climber, and a lecturer in environmental economics. Alan holds a
PSIA level-I certification in Nordic.

Eli coaches Little Nords. She has been teaching at the Summit Nordic Center since 1989,
joined the JNP in 2001, and became the JNP director in 2006.
Eli also coaches at the West Yellowstone Ski camps, teaches clinics for the
Washington Alpine Club
and holds a PSIA level-III certification in Nordic.
Eli loves all skiing---alpine, backcountry skiing and nordic racing---and before kids, she was an
avid rock and ice climber. When not coaching skiing, she coaches soccer. In her day job, she lives math. |

Maile is an assistant coach for the Little Nords. She went through the Junior Nordic Program herself from Treasure Trails
up through Freeheelers. This is her second year as an assistant coach in the Junior Nordic Program.
Maile is a junior at Roosevelt High School and spends lots of time playing soccer and volleyball in her free time. |

Ben coaches Trailblazers. He previously taught Freeheelers for two years, as well as
with the Mountaineers' track and backcountry ski programs. He began
teaching at the Summit Nordic Center in 2003, and holds a PSIA level-I
certification in Nordic. He also enjoys alpine and ski mountaineering, and
In the off-season, mountain biking and kayaking. |

Pico coaches Trailblazers. This will be Pico's 1st season coaching in the JNP.
Pico has been teaching Nordic skiing to 5th graders
in the Cle Elum schools for the last 6 years, a ski program which he
helped to establish. When there's snow on the ground, his favorite thing to do is get
out on skis, particularly in the high backcountry, either Tele or
Randonee. In the "off
season" he loves rambling and scrambling in the mountains as well as sea
kayaking and mountain biking. He plays southern old-time and Irish tunes on
the fiddle and mandolin and is a cabinetmaker by trade.

Doug coaches Freeheelers and Jr Tele. Over the last 20 years, Doug
has taught and raced all ski disciplines. In the 1990s, he helped run the
nordic racing program at the Summit.
Besides teaching at the Summit, he has taught at Solitude, Jackson Hole, and
Crystal. In addition, he has taught avalanche and back country travel skills, has been
a climbing guide, and has skied some of the hardest lines off Mt. Ranier.
Currently, he runs the QuintEssence ski clinic targeting high end athletes. |

Karel coaches Freeheelers. Karel learned to ski in the Czech Republic.
He began instructing at the Summit Nordic Center in 1989 (with Glenn and Eli) and joined the
Junior Nordic Program in 2001. Karel holds a PSIA level-III certification in
Nordic and also teaches for the Washington Alpine Club.
When not nordic skiing, Karel straps on his Atomic Randonee skis. In the spring and fall, he
coaches soccer and before that he coached chess. |

Tony coaches Freeheelers. Tony is a sports enthusiast. He competed regionally in nordic
skiing for eleven seasons,
finishing first in his age group twice and second twice in the Snoqualmie Wednesday Night Series.
As well as working on fitness, he really enjoys focus technique, having participated in West Yellowstone and
Silver Star Nordic clinics. As well as skiing, Tony is an assistant youth sabre (fencing) coach.
When not fencing or skiing, he is an avid canoe and kayaker and cyclist. |

Paul runs the JNP racing program.
He was a Freeheeler instructor in the JNP for many years and has been involved in citizen
and junior race programs since the mid-1990s. In 1994, Paul started the Weds. Night Race series and ran the
Summit nordic racing program for 10+ years. In 1995 he co-founded the Team Nordic junior racing program which
evolved into the JNP.
Paul has served both as the JNP director and the Nordic Center ski school director.
He holds a PSIA level-III certification in Nordic and a level-I in telemark,
and is an officer in the Snoqualmie Nordic Club. |
