AA TAYAR HOJA
The dance number that introduced Springfield to the fun of Bollywood! Choreographed by Laurel Victoria Gray, revised in 2009 to include more "girls from the village" pantomime and multi-directional travel to make this number look like it just stepped off the big screen. Come get on the boat with us as we row across the river of love. Bollywood Level 2
AGRE DAGINDUM UKTUM
Our most complex cane choreography, also known as the "Train Wreck' for it's edge-of-the-seat interactions of spinning dancers passing thru lines of other dancers. Once you master this dance, get set for the heady thrill of the adrenalin it creates when the magic happens! Taught at Level Three in our Beledi track.
AGZINI YERIM
Inspired by the teachings of master instructor Artemis Mourat, and choreographed by Karida. Use of finger cymbals is integral to dancing Turkish-style. This choreography focuses on variations of the basic "threes" zill patterns used in the 9/8 time signature. Taught at Level Two in our Turkish Track.
ANANI
Music by Ehab Tawfik, this dance teaches a number of the "basics", with simple movements set in mildly challenging combos and clear "dance the music" structure that allows the students to know just by listening which combo goes where! This choreography by Karida is taught at Level One.
BAGHDAD
Dance with feather fans that has a Spanish flavor. This dance was choreographed by Sheherezades Fantasies of Dallas Texas, and is a dynamic use of group interaction. A sure audience dazzler! Taught at level Three in our Beledi track.
BANANZA-BELLYDANCER
Ready to "shake it like a Bellydancer"? Our other more light-hearted dance number lets you get your groove on, and show the world "you're the flyin'est thang in here". Taught at Level One.
BARBIE VEIL
Veil dance set to Rhumba rhythms, choreographed by Serena el Saleh (Barb Nichols) of Aalim Dance Academy. A variety of veil techniques abound, in this sizzling but flirty number. Taught at Level Two in our Cabaret track.
BHOOL BHULAIYA
Bollywood Dance is not just for girls. This choreography was written for both genders to enjoy! Slightly irreverent, Punjabi flavored with a little "Rap" and a nod to Michael Jackson too! No turban required! BW Level Two
BUTTONS
Hot, sexy, and ready for Las Vegas. This dance uses veils and group interaction, while stressing how to listen to your music for the cues that keep the moves synchronised for maximum "wow factor". Choreography by Karida, taught at Level Two in our Beledi & Cabaret tracks.
CARAVAN
Music by Raquy and the Cavemen, who accompanied Karida performing this original choreography at their first concert appearance in Springfield. It is our most difficult and demanding sword dance, and includes the challenging "Turkish Drop", in a Tribal Fusion-style for solo or group. Taught at Level Three in our Fusion track.
CHOK UZAK
This heart-wrenching music tells a tale of longing for loved ones and lands far away. Silk veils weave the tale and waft on the breeze in this Turkish/Rromany style choreography by Karida. Learn to bond with your veil, and master some audience-dazzling tricks! Taught at Level 2.5 in our Turkish track.
CLOSER TO MADNESS
Spanish guitar, Spanish flair, a veil, and "Turbo Shimmies" - lots of Turbo Shimmies! This choreography takes movement layering to new heights, while getting your heart-rate elevated for that fabulous endorphin rush, which only gets better when you master this dance! Taught at Level Three in our Cabaret track.
DESERT JOURNEY
Sword balancing goes a step further, when we take it to the floor and learn to do a few more acrobatic moves to display the dancers control in performing with a sword. Taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
DOCUK
Tambourines and swirling skirts evoke the heart and soul of the Rromani people. Come hop aboard our caravan as we celebrate the travelling life. Taught at Level 3 in our Turkish track.
DOLA DOLA
Garba dance, dance with sticks called Dandiya, made famous in the west by the movie "Bride and Prejudice" is rapidly turning into the latest fitness craze. Fast steps, spins, hops, require the dancers to be 'on the mark' especially if you don't want your fingers whacked.... The rhythm is going to get you! Bollywood Level 3
ED HAK
The choreography will make you smile, the music will make you giggle. This happy dance by Ligaya (Margie Hyde) is a joyful celebration of the healing power of laughter. (one of the reasons bellydancers are some of the healthiest people alive!) Let's get healthy together! Taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
EL ALIM ALAH
The use of finger cymbals is expanded upon by learning different sounds you can produce with them. This choreography strongly reflects the personal style of it's author: Jasmine Jahal, with ballerina poise and balletic spins. Taught at Level 2.5 in our Cabaret track.
EL BINT EL LIBNANIYE
(aka: "Cane One") Our first, and easiest cane dance. Set to music by Emad Sayyah, and danced in the style of Egyptian street performers, this choreography by Karida is taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
ELA HIYA
Set to music by Amr Diab, this happy-go-lucky dance is one of our most recent Level One choreographies. Karida has choregraphed this one in basic "Karida" style, for a light-hearted cross between American Cabaret, Egyptian, and Lebanese styles.
FELLAHIN
Folkloric at it's best! This choreography by the famed Ibrahim Farah is the dance of the farmers of Saudi Arabia. Balancing baskets of their produce, the dancers show off the joy of the harvest, using authentic movement, music, and rhythm. Taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
GAMZELIM
A dynamic group dance, choreographed by Nadia Alooma. Each position in the formation takes each move to a different direction, foot, or rotation. Learning one position is easy - then try to adapt to a new position to challenge yourself, your body and your mind! Taught at Level Three in our Beledi Track.
HABBAYATAK
Strictly Egyptian styling, but for Level One. A great introduction to one of the more complex styles of bellydance, designed for the beginning dancer with clear phrasing and repetion of key combos. Learn the elegance of the culture where dancers are goddesses! This choreography by Karida is taught at Level One.
HADOUNI
American Cabaret Bellydance, which first had it's heyday in the 70's, is an engagingly classic style that is returning to a strong position in the otherwise "Egyptian-centric" dance circles of today. Music by George Abdo speaks of the allure of sensual dark eyes. Choreography is by Marriah. Taught at Level One.
I WANNA SEE YOU BELLYDANCE
One of our "tongue-in-cheek" Level One choreographies, designed for summer fun. Set to Siberian Surf-Rock by the Red Elvises, bring your air guitar and hang ten with us!
INSPIRATION
This choreography by Jasmine Jahal is a performance-length drum-solo style number. Intricate and full of layers with shimmies, it also makes use of the dynamic pause - teaching dancers to "wait for it" to keep the audience engaged. Taught at Level Three in our Cabaret track.
MARCO POLO
Our basic introduction to sword, and the dance using balancing techniques that most of our students tackle first before any other balancing dance. Also features the beautiful "Lotus Hands". Choreography by Nadia Alooma. Taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
NARY YA HABEEBA
NINHA BALADNA
Similar in flavor to Cane One, but adds the pattern of the linked circle of canes, and moves a larger group thru more dynamic patterns across the stage. This choreography by Karida is taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
OCEAN OF FIRE
Big ruffly skirts are what people equate with the free spirit of the "Gypsy". This lively and colorful dance, bursting with attitude, teaches techniques for getting the full benefit of your skirt yardage. Choreography by Karida, Taught at Level Two in our Turkish track.
RAKS ARABY
More classic American Bellydance set to music by George Abdo. This simple, easy to learn choreography by Tedi was first designed to be taught to 4th graders, and includes a few measures of fun group interaction. Taught in our 4-week Intro to Bellydance class.
RINGA RINGA
This Bollywood-style choreography was created by Laurel Victoria Gray, to music from Slumdog Millionaire. This group dance includes several classical Rajasthani dance steps and tells a whimsical tale about why a girl could not get any sleep last night. Bollywood Level 2
SALAAM
In the movie "Umrao Jaan" the courtesan debuts at a party for the wealthy, where she welcomes the guests with beauty and grace. Drawing on elements from traditional Kathak dance of Northern India, and adapted by Karida from the screen choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant. This choreography is taught at Level 4 in our Bollywood track.
SAALEM ALENA
While Saiidi choreographies are typically done with a cane, this one sets the cane aside to focus on the intricate foot-work of delicate hops and kicks common to Saiidi dance. Lively and flirty, this choreography is taught at Level Two in our Cabaret track.
SAJDA
This "Introduction to Bollywood" choreography was written for an online contest. Easy to learn, but VERY aerobic!
SAPTAK
Created by Karida for Troupe Zahava for a performance at Springfield First Night. The dancers hold lighted candles, moving them in glowing patterns for a dramatic group interaction dance. Taught at Level Three in our Beledi track.


21-F, 22-D, 23-J, 24-L, 25-A
SNAKE ARM
Finger cymbals, footwork, and fast-moving combos, this dance packs a lot of dance moves into a short song. Get ready for a challenge you will love in this dynamite group interaction choreography by Scheherezades Fantasies! Taught at Level Three in our Beledi track.
TWO GYPSIES
Inspired by instructor Dalia Carella, this was Karida's first Rromany/Fusion choreography, and the catalyst for the formation of Troupe Zahava. Students begin to master the use of finger cymbals and dancing with full skirts. Taught at Level Two in our Turkish track.
YA INTA WALLA FALLA
Arabian Gulf-style dance, know as Khaleegi, is danced in the full Thobe Nishal (Arabic embroidered caftan) during parties and bridal showers. A social dance for women, this folkloric style is exhuberant and full of the color of the Middle East. Choreography by Karida. Taught at Level Two in our Beledi track.
YA LEYLI
A classic, and a favorite, in the American Cabaret style, choreographed by Tedi, director of the Nile Breeze Dance Company. This dance teaches a number of the "basics", and is set in a clear "dance the music" structure that allows the students to know just by listening which combo goes where. Taught at Level One.
