I am a self-taught computer operator/programmer with 20 years of experience and am skilled in a wide variety of different applications. I started in 1984 with CP/M based computers and was able to program word processor and database functions to perform a variety of different tasks that were not inherent in the programs.
I acquired my first MS/DOS based computer in 1985 and started programming in Basic and also became an accomplished batch file programmer. With this experience, I moved on to Turbo Pascal and eventually wrote a function-key based menu system that was released as shareware in 1987.
With the release of Microsoft Windows, I upgraded my system and became a proficient user of WordStar and, later Microsoft Word, which I used to do graphical design work and preparing lessons for quilting students. Over the years, I have upgraded my system several times and have learned each operating system quite well, along with Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word. I moved on to use Corel Suite 6 to further advance my talents and the quality of my work in graphical design.
With my computer experience, I founded "The Best IRC Chat Channel for Quilters on the Internet". This required me to learn Internet networking protocol, IRC client programming and channel management.
I decided to use my skills as a graphical designer and put my own presence on the Internet to share my work with other quilters and promote my chat channel. I registered several domains for http://www.kathkwilts.com/ and proceeded to learn HTML and JavaScript so I could program and post what I wanted when I wanted to. This site presently consists of well over 100 pages of text and graphics ranging from scanned photos to custom-designed logos and animated pictures and has had over 560,000 visitors to the site since July of 1996.
Since then, I have utilized my HTML programming skills to assist many fellow web users in writing their own web pages and have lent assistance to several professional web designers. I have become proficient in designing and managing FrontPage websites and working with various types of Internet servers. I am also capable of programming CGI’s in PERL.
I also designed, implemented and manage a wired/wireless network in my home, which consists of two desktop computers and two notebook computers, as well as wireless printserver and remote network fileserver. I also assisted in implementing extensive business networks at the two most recent places of my employment.
