KATHY COOPER
F I N E A R T
About the Artist
Kathy’s aesthetic aptitude is expressed uninhibitedly and eloquently with each stroke of her paintbrush.

She is drawn to the beauty of God’s creations, especially roses and landscape. Her work is a delicate balance between energy and preciseness of the subject depicting an incredible attraction to her work.

Her work is depicted with strong composition with movement and color. Her roses glow and porcelain shines. Her paintings are as soothing as the music she paints by. Antique vases, plates, cups and saucers, lace and pearls are typical subjects for Kathy to paint in her painterly style.

“I’ve been learning to paint all my life. Begining as a child, in my oriental watercolor classes, I learned the importance of a controled brushstroke. Each of my paintings have a purpose, they are planned before paint hits the linen canvas, yet they still have energetic sponteneity which I love so.”

Kathy paints from life in her studio in Westford, Massachusetts and en pléin air around New England. In her still life, she is inspired by antiques and fresh flowers. She captures the essence of roses with a gentle and peaceful setting.

“Items from the past are comforting to me,” she says, “they remind me of my grandparent’s homes. They led simple lives and my grandmothers had few cherished items such as handmade lace, and depression ware. I believe these memories are what draw me to these items of the past. It may be why people are drawn to my paintings – reminding them of a romantic, yet simpler time.”

She was raised in San Antonio, Texas by parents who encouraged her artistic talents early on. It was at Southwest Texas State University where Kathy decided on a career in commercial art and advertising. This direction led her into illustration, marketing & advertising, publishing design and into New England. After 20 years in this field, Kathy turned her focus back to fine art and studied with artists such as Craig Srebnik, and the teachings of Richard Schmid.
In, May 2008, Kathy was invited to visit the Putney Painters, Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik at Village Arts for the day. Kathy states,

“Richard greeted me so kindly, put his arm around me and announced that such beautiful compliments of my work to the others standing by. I am beaming. It was one of those, “perfect” moments that I will always remember. He announce me as a prominent uprising still life painters.”

Kathy’s paintings have won national awards in the American Impressionist Society, (AIS), and Women Artists of the West, (WAOW).
