Appalachian Hunger and Poverty General Advance Special #982039

Purpose:

The Appalachian Hunger and Poverty General Advance Special (#982039) provides support to ministries addressing the long-term, structural, and systematic causes of hunger and poverty, along with meeting basic human need.   Goals of the Appalachian Hunger and Poverty General Advance Special are:

  • to encourage local church ministries addressing economic oppression in ways that seek to provide long-term improvement for needs of the region;
  • to provide advocacy for people suffering from economic injustice;
  • to assist and encourage development of new ministries or expansion of current ministries seeking to address hunger and poverty in Appalachia;
  • to help meet emergency needs of some ongoing ministries dealing with increasing client populations and decreasing resources and assisting ministries in areas where no local funding is available;
  • to raise funds to provide at least 15 grants of $2,500 per year.
