th' BudTenna

Aye, lately me been playin' with wireless network antennas t' increase th' range o' me lap top for use at th' boardin' house.  Most o' th' better boardin' houses have wireless for th' land lubbers.  Arrr, what if you be stayin' at th' one next-door, o' aboard th' Barquentine Swordfish at dock???

Ahoy, th' BudTenna!

Aye, me made it from a Budweiser case (you know how hard they be t' empty) and foil duct tape.  Aye, then just slipped it o'er th' little antenna on th' USB adapter. Aye.

Arrr, th' BudTenna is simple to build and with th' right USB adaptor box is bountifully bombastic , 12 dbi gain, well blow me down!!  Arrr, me brother tried one o' those bic lighter lookin' USB jobbers in one that he built and reported that i' worked great.

Aye, th' BudTenna is double size o' th' one on this har site, Gar.

Aye, she's a great, grand antenna, she increased th' signal from nay none a signal t' a signal o' "good"
o' th' "Netstumbler" software from nay a signal to 63 to 69
Ahoy, th' connection was through se'eral walls from th' Carriage house t' th' sittin' room, abouts 185 feet o' 31 Fathoms. Aye.

An' Twin Tennas fer the house, Aye

Arrr, me also tried a few other hi gain antennas, blow me down, this one did as good as th' best and was a lot easier t' build and use.  Aye, and da Grog wents down good, Aye Aye.  Drink up, me hearties!

Ahoy, before showin' th' other antennas me should gi'es out me test conditions.

Aye, me set th' antennas inside o' me garage that be 150 feet from th' house.  Arrr, th' router was in th' li'in' room addin' another 35 feet. Aye.
Ahoy, har is th' hard part; me be lookin' through 5 walls inside th' house and one in th' garage!!  Shiver me timbers!

Ahoy, th' other antennas that me tried war nay not me design, me let someone else do th' math.

Arrr, first off the Yagi, Gar

Aye, built 't from a piece o' moldin', 14 ga wire, an' some maskin' tape.
Sounds like 't wouldna work but me kept th' dimensions an' she's a great, grand 14 dB gain, Aye Aye.
Ye can be seein' that me used coax t' feed this one, but me also tried 't by jus' puttin' th' USB Adaptor antenna in th' right spot an' 't worked jus' as well!!

Aye, th' link for th' Yagi math, Gar

Aye, this be th' Usb Adaptor with th' coax modification, wasted time, blast 't all.

Arrr, last one, th' Can Tanna th' pictures o' inside and out.
'tis real close t' th' gain o' th' BudTenna an' might set sail better,
reckon th' target, me Matey.
Arrr, t' set sail with it for ports unknowns, Aye Aye.

Me made 't from a 40oz Can wi' th' hole center 1.87" from th' closed end.
Me also tried 't wi' coax feed an' a 1/4 wave element an' 't seamed t' gave th' same gain,
Aye, jus' more work, blast 't all!

Ahoy, har be a link t' th' 40 oz'er and math for other sizes o' Can Tennas
