Massachusetts State Police SmartZone 05
The Greater Boston SmartZone covers the MSP
Troop A and
Troop H patrol areas.
It started as a three site system (Boston,
Arlington, and Canton) used by the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC)
and the Mass Water Resources Authority (MWRA). In the early 1990's, a good
portion of the MDC was absorbed by the State Police, and the State Police
acquired the trunking system. Since then, the State Police have gone on to
add many more sites to the system, and integrate it into the statewide
system.
Troop A/H Site Locations
The Troop A/H system has a total of nine simulcast sites and are operating
under the callsigns WNMJ500 and WPFF425 from the following locations:
Arlington (Turkey Hill), Boston (One Ashburton Pl), Canton (Blue Hills)
Andover (Holt Hill), Chelmsford (Robbins Hill), Essex (Morse Hill),
Framingham (Nobscott Hill), Georgetown (Long Hill), and Wrentham (RT 1).
In addition to these sites, there is a single site inside the Ted Williams
Tunnel (SmartZone 2), and another site inside
the extension of the Mass Turnpike connecting to the Ted Williams Tunnel
(SmartZone 21).
There is also another simulcast system that covers the immediate
Boston area (SmartZone 1) which is used primarily
by the MDC, MWRA, and Central Artery Tunnel Project.
