This is my new aerospace page which will cover
Airplanes, Air shows, Rocketry, and Bader field.
First up my flight to Lancaster PA
and back in a Mooney Bravo aircraft. The flight was on March 6th,
2008 and departure was at 13:00hrs. Jeff K2CGH was my pilot and fellow SPARC
club member. We took off from Woodbine
Airport in Southern New Jersey and
headed west to Lancaster PA. We leveled off at 3000ft and cruised at
about 160 Kt. The ride to Lancaster
was bumpy but it made the flight fun. About 35 Minutes later we landed at Lancaster with a very
smooth landing. Jeff and my self ate lunch at the airport restaurant having
soup and “The Hundred Dollar Chicken Caesar Salad”. Then we took off from Lancaster and headed back to 1N4 Woodbine Airport.
First we went up to flight level 3000ft and again we experienced a bumpy ride.
Jeff increased our altitude to 5500ft were we found smooth air. Then the fun began, Jeff asked me is I wanted
to take control of the aircraft and I of course said YES! First I flew strait
and level, then did some turns up to 20 degree bank both left and right all
while having to hold the altitude at 5500ft. Well I did go up and down a little
but within the 100ft either way of 5500ft. Then Jeff demonstrated how the plane
can be controlled with just the rudder and the trim controls. We turned left
and right and went up and down. Once Jeff was done he handed the plane back to
me and told me to get back to 5500ft and put us on a heading to Woodstown NJ as per Philadelphia traffic
control. I had no problem getting back to the correct altitude and correct
heading. The GPS made it really easy to navigate and head in the right direction.
Once in NJ airspace we set our course to Woodbine Airport.
When we got over Millville NJ Jeff had me descend to 3000ft then to
1200ft at 500ft per minute. From 3000ft and down the air was bumpy again. Then
the Woodbine Airport was in sight. I thought Jeff was
going to take over when he said “go to the right of the airport and get into
the pattern”. I approached the pattern and flew the upwind leg, then turned to
the left and to the crosswind leg, turned again, down to 1100ft to the downwind
leg. Turned to the base leg then Jeff assumed control, he lowered the flaps and landing
gear, turned to the final approach and very smoothly landed the aircraft. An excellent
flight from start to finish. Anyway enough of the details, here are the
Pictures:
Me at the
Controls noticed the big smile.

The Pilot side,
forgive the picture, it is a little out of focus.
The Co-Pilot
side.
That’s all for
now, I have to thank Jeff K2CGH for the flight, he made my dream of flying come
true. I also have to thank Bill AA2BP for encouraging me to pursue my Pilots
License which I will earn one day. I also have to thank the Microsoft Flight
Simulator for helping me train for my first day at the controls of a Airplane.
