The
Californian chapters of the Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the installation
of new Mission Bells along historic El Camino Real in California.
St. Francis of Assisi Council 4981 recently donated, installed and dedicated
two Mission Bells. The first bell is located at Pezzella's Villa Napoli
Restaurant in Sunnyvale and the second at St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish
in Cupertino. The bells were cast from the original molds for some of the bells
once placed along El Camino Real from San Diego to San Francisco.
Work on this project spans eighteen months of planning, negotiating, building
and joyful dedication. Dedications at both sites were held on 1 November
1998, Dave Walker presiding.

This mission bell is dedicated to Terry Lawson, lifetime resident
of Sunnyvale. His widow, Sandy Lawson and Bep Zambonin admire the installed
bell on the little mound by Pezzella's Restaurant. Thanks to the owners
of Pezzella's (an left) for allowing the use of the site!
The second mission bell was installed at St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish
Church in Cupertino, CA. Part of the installation crew are seen in the

An excellent reference book on the El Camino Real bells is "California's El Camino Real and Its Historic Bells" by Max Kurillo and Erline Tuttle published in 2000 by Sunbelt Publications.
