Thursday, September 28th, 2051: Hall of Kansas City Earns FL Batting Crown
The 2051 Federal League batting champion is Tony Hall of the Kansas City Tornadoes. He just closed out an impressive season with a .366 average. His consistency at the plate was a prime reason the 24-year-old third baseman beat out the competition. A slump was a rare occurence for him.
Playing in 152 games, Hall contributed 213 hits, 10 home runs and 82 RBIs to the Tornadoes attack.
Well, Kansas City has clinched it's 2nd Federal League, Southeast Division Title. With 3 games to go, Kansas City is 94-65 with a 14 game lead over Nashville (80-79). Clinching this early has allowed me to plan ahead with my pitching rotation.
Hey, my shortstop Kent Harris broke the 100 mark for RBIs in a season by recording 101 with 3 games left. Way to go Kent, (pictured left). Harris is batting .316 with a .398 OBP with 42 doubles, 6 triples and 22 HRs with the 101 RBIs. All these numbers are better than the year before.
The Tulsa Drillers, my TTBL Single A team won the Single A Championship this week beating the Chattanooga Sharks 4 games to 3. It was a fantastic year for the Drillers finishing 65-56. Their main player was pitcher Britt Rogers who finished 11-7 with a 3.31 ERA.
Well, it's Sept 4th, (game time), and Kansas City is still in 1st in the Federal league. We went 2-4 this week after a 2-5 last week. This has to change. My pitching is starting to really struggle. The only thing that is really exciting in Kansas City right now is the race for the batting title between Santiago Cabrera .361 and last years title holder, Tony Hall .357. The fans are really behind the two, as I am.
August 28th, game time and would you believe 3 out of the top 5 players listed in Federal League Batting Average come from Kansas City? It's true however. Santiago Cabrera leads the league batting .361, Tony Hall is second at .347 and Kent Harris is 5th, batting .316. There's plenty of offense in Kansas City.
After winning the TTBL batting title in 2050 with a .341 average, once again Tony Hall is making a run at the title. As of august 21st, he leads both leagues in the TTBL with a average of .353. That's a 24 point lead over the 2nd place guy.
My predicament is that Kansas City has another guy who is also making a run at the title, but is alittle over 4 plate appearances short of qualifying. That player is Santiago Cabrera. He is batting .370 and could coast to the title if he gets enough at bats. So, what does Greg Moe do? Should he move Cabrera to the top of the order to get him to the plate more or should he keep him batting 5th and hope that Tony Hall can win his second title?
"I don't want the title handed to me. I want to win it fair and square." That's what Hall had to say about it this week when asked after a game. I don't think Hall should even think anything was handed to him. He has worked hard to become one of the top batters in the league. As of right now he is the all-time TTBL leader in batting average and hits. He is only 23 years old and if he keeps going like he has, he will be a certain Hall of Fame player and maybe the best true hitter in the leagues history.
Buck Barnett had a fantastic week pitching in two games, winning both by pitching shutouts in each. All together he pitched 16 innings allowing just 3 hits and no runs striking out 18 while walking only 4. In one game against Washington, he combined with Chad Childress to pitch a No-Hitter!
Just when I thought Buck was starting to have problems, he comes back and reminds the league why he is considered the best pitcher in the TTBL. Thanks Buck.
Game time is August 14th, and the thing that surprises the league, (though they would never admit it), is that Kansas City has some offense! In fact, in the Federal League, Kansas City is 3rd in batting average with a .259 mark. They are stunning the league by hitting the 2nd most hits in the FL, with 1,071. With this offensive production and their league leading pitching staff, it's no wonder the Tornadoes are 73-48 with a 13 game lead over Nashville.
Kansas City still in 1st place. Tony Hall leads the whole league in batting with Santiago Cabrera coming fast. He is batting .376 but lacks just a few PAs to qualify. He is a guy who hits only singles, but he is good at it. Luckly this week, Chris Britt comes off the DL and will allow me to move Santiago down in the lineup to bat 5th. Hall moves to bat 2nd, then Britt then Harris. That's a pretty good top of the order. I'd put it up against any team in the league right now.
My pitching is starting to worry me a little. My starters are giving up anywhere between 6 to 9 hits a game. I need to maybe find my weakness on defense and fix it, even if it means giving up some offense. Afterall, this is KC.
Moe Brothers Football
It looks like "Moe Brothers Football" may be coming to an end....yes, already. Me and Mark do this all the time. We get a game, start a season, then get bored with it. The games are fun, for me, but they might not be for Mark. I don't blame him at all, his team was bad and it's no fun losing. We'll see. There's no rush on the season and maybe we can play every now and then. I might get into Madden 08 again in my free time.
My Cleveland team hit it big tonight with this big win over the Cardinals. The Browns blocked 2 punts inside Chicago's 20 yard line and ran one back for a TD. Graham threw 3 TDs with 2 going to Dub Jones. Graham also ran for 43 yards on the ground. Marion Motley ran for 124 yards and a score to add to the teams landslide win.
Even though I won this game, it was the most frustrating game I think I've ever played. I kept catching Mark in the wrong defense, but each time I did, Graham kept scrambling or would have his pass tipped, or my back would get only 1 or 2 yards.
Going into the game, I was pretty sure of a win as I thought Pittsburgh had a pretty bad defense, but under Mark, the Steelers held Graham without a TD pass. This was the 1st game that has happened.
This was with out question the best played game Mark has ever done. Of course he did it against my team. He guessed right almost every play while on defense and I couldn't stop him while I was on defense. The Giants might be the team to beat in my division. They really dominated my Cleveland team. I lead 10-0 for a few minutes then it was all New York.
Well played Mark, but remember, for every win you get, you will pay with 24 straight losses. Was it 20, or 24? He he ha!
In a cross town game, the Bears beat the Cardinals 21 to 10. This was a hard luck game for Mark, as all three Bears TDs were really just lucky break away plays, 2 TDs and once to like the 4 yard line. The game was pretty entertaining all the way to late in the 4th quarter. I give the game 3 stars ***
Marks QB Jim Hardy was 18 of 40 for 256 yards and 1 TD with 4 Ints, The game MVP was the Bear's Fred Negus who had 11 tackles, 1 stuff and 2 sacks.
Just finished another game over the net with my brother Mark. My above board skill managed to get me another win. This time my 1950 Cleveland Browns beat the 50' Baltimore Colts with Y.A. Tittle 35-0. Ok, it might not have been my great skill here. It was mostly because my Browns were alot better than the hapless Colts.
If anyone reading this has a copy of 2nd and Ten, be sure to drop me a message in my state of the art message board. We can get together and play a game over the net, or you can join my brother and I in our league play over the net. If you would like to know where you can get a copy of the game, leave a message of how to reach you from my "Contact" link.
Mark's Chicago Cardinals prove what I thought earlier.....Baltimore is really bad. Behind a strong running game, the Cards shutout the Colts.
Highlight for the game came late in the 4th quarter as the Colts, (controled by me), launch a 22 play drive that last for over 8:30 minutes and come away with nothing as the Colts kicker missed a chip shot to try to spoil the shutout. Oh well, Mark deserves the win. Maybe it will spark a trend for him.
Personal
Well, it's 1:57 AM on July 12th, 2009. It's been some time since I last posted anything on this site. I always liked this site and am not sure why I got away from it, but I did I guess.
I don't really have much to say right now, but I am going to make some plans tomorrow to redo this site more to my liking. So, stay tuned.
I quit the NABA baseball league the other day. I was the owner of the Royals there and didn’t mind the losing season I had there, but I did mind the commish. The guy was an idiot. He won’t listen to anyone unless you have whatever your suggesting going through some committee meetings, debates and then votes. It’s a freaking game my man. The biggest problem is it takes almost a year to do a year in the game! Oh well, I was thinking of quitting this league anyway as it was my least fun to be in. Enough time wasted on this….
Boy, remember these people? Those were some care free day's weren't they? At least they were for me. This show was out in 1966. I was 3 years old at the time and saw this on re-runs probally during the 70's. I don't think we will ever get back to times like this. Now it's all sex, crime and violence.
I'm sitty here tonight watching the Kansas Jayhawks take it to the Oklahoma State Cowboys and am amazed at how easy Kansas is moving the ball early in this game and have just gone up 7-0. The reason I mention this is it worries me a bit cause I am hoping the Missouri Tigers can beat Kansas when they play each other in a week or two. I saw Missouri beat Texas A&M today 40-26 but had a bit of a struggle to be honest. Missouri is now 9-1 and Kansas is 9-0 and could be 10-0 if they beat these guys tonight. What a game this will be when the meet. (Oh baby! OS just scored a TD on Kansas before I could even finish this. Now it's 7-7.)
I know it should be "brother and I", but what the hell. Anyway, just wanted to give a little more background on Mark and me. We have been playing games together for over 30 years now. I think we started with electric football. I loved electric football. I painted every team myself and had each team with their home and away uni's. If I remember right, Mark painted one team, Washington I think and he has been a fan of theirs ever since.
Then I moved on to APBA Football and really got into that too. I had teams going back into the 40's all the way up to like 1984 or so. I really loved that game and played alot of games with Mark, Brian Parrish and just with myself. Around this time, Mark got into a boxing game called "Title Bout" and we both got into a baseball game called "Status Pro Baseball." We played hundreds of baseball games together betwwen us and even some with two guys known as "The Tims." (Both named Tim.) We also had hundreds of boxing matches between us and with the Tims. Those were some good old days.
The above games were all board games by the way. We started to get into computer games around 1990 or something like that. There are just too many games to even talk about then. Somewhere in there, Mark and me got married and devorced. (Me twice.) I spent alot of time away also in different camps and overseas and am now home for good after I lost a leg in a IED explosion a couple years ago now. So, I have taken up playing games again and now dominate the online world. (Kidding...or am I?)
Just a bit of history for you.
