Sex Religion Philosophy Belief System Politics Technology & Culture

These are, by far, some of my all-time favorite subjects. I really don't care if someone, in their infinite wisdom, decided that Sex, Politics and Religion are taboo - I like all of these subjects. They stimulate people into an engaging conversation (the key, there, is conversation or dialogue). I am a big fan of dialogue and am reminded of an old saying that I heard years ago. Granted, it is probably not 'politically correct' today as it refers to the male gender, but the point was taken and I have never forgotten it. It simply states that "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still". The only reason that I mention this is because I have met people who want to tell me everything - like they are some sort of authority and I am supposed to just accept what they say as fact? Ha - I don't think so! I will listen to anyone who will listen to me. If you have no desire to listen to me, I have none to listen to you. I have spent the better part of 46 years accumulating knowledge, weeding through it and trying to figure out what is useful and what is not. Obviously, I weeded out a lot of crap in order to derive some sort of 'informed' decision. That is not to say that I have not made mistakes. I have made more than I can remember or care to count. Another lesson that I learned (from my chemistry professor - many thanks to "Doc" Malmin, PhD) was to evaluate the available information and draw a conclusion from it. What I didn't understand at the time was that a lot of people jump to conclusions and then scramble to find information to back up the conclusion that they just jumped to. I guess we are all wired a little differently, but I like Doc's way better. His simple lesson has kept me out of a lot of trouble over the years. I wonder how much that lesson was worth?
I never claimed to be politically correct (I lean toward the Republican way of thinking, but I think Ross Perot has some interesting ideas, and I like Colin Powell, too), or culturally advanced (I've only been in 50 states, three countries & lived in Japan for 4 years), or a philosopher (ok - so I get a little philosophical when I'm drinking), so poo poo on whoever doesn't like it! I'll listen to you if you listen to me. I definitely have more questions than answers, but it still makes for interesting conversation. I owe a cousin of mine (Wayne Eastridge) a debt of gratitude. He asked me a very interesting question when I was about 25 years old that changed my life. He simply asked if I knew why I have two ears and only one mouth. I have never admitted to being the sharpest pencil in the box, but it didn't take long to figure out that he was tactfully telling me that I would learn a lot more by listening than talking.
With a mother raised Catholic, a father raised Methodist, and friends of virtually every known faith, I have had some interesting conversations and I hope to have many more regarding religion, philosophy, and belief systems in general.
If space permits, and as I figure out how to use this MS FrontPage® program, I may have to segment off an 'adult' section as it was my original intent to have this a "G-Rated" site and I do not know all the rules, yet, pertaining to my Internet Service Provider's (Comcast) definition of 'adult' content.

So with that, I want to ask a few simple questions. Maybe it will help get things rolling. It's not like I thought these questions up myself, but I have heard them over the years and have not had a good answer yet.
1) Why do we park in the driveway, but drive on the parkway?
2) Why do hot dog buns come in 8-packs, but hot dogs come in 10-packs?
