The
wedding of Keisha Trotter and Andre Nelson will
be a
combination of a traditional wedding with an African
twist.
From
the pre-wedding activities, to the ceremony, clothes
and even down to the favors,
our wedding will be a true African inspired experience!
Rituals
that you will experience at our wedding may include:
Libation
An
African proverb tells us that people who lack
the knowledge of the past are like
a tree without roots. Libation is the oldest form
of prayer. This ritual calls upon and
asks Almighty God's blessing and the blessings
of ancestral spirits.
Tasting
of the Elements
The
bride and groom taste flavors that represent the
different emotions within a
relationship: sour (lemon), bitter (vinegar),
hot (cayenne), and sweet (honey), for example.
This symbolizes the couple's ability to get through
the hard times in life to enjoy
the sweetness of marriage.
Jumping
the Broom
Jumping
the Broom is an African-American wedding tradition
where couples use
jumping the broom at their wedding to symbolize
all past problems have been
swept away, revealing a fresh future ahead.
