Christmas Eve At The Miller's

Jason, Jill, Corey and Lindsey came over for Christmas Eve dinner and a brisk round of present opening.  First Debra whipped up a turkey dinner, with host of side dishes, and followed it with apple pie a-la-mode.  It was our first chance to try out the buffet that Keith made, and so far it has not collapsed.  Jason got a pizza maker, Jill and purple sweater and robe.  Corey received the 'SpongeBob:Lights, Camera, Pants' video game, and Scrabble.  While Lindsey got the Dora the Explorer pillow, and doll with armoire.  But the hit of the night appears to be Lindsey's 'Wack-A-Mole' game.  We wacked that sucker until late into the evening.

Debra's Father Celebrates 75th

Debra's sister Shari came up from Myrtle Beach to stay with us for the weekend, as the family prepared for Sheldon Brown's surprise 75th birthday party.  Patty and Glen Swan drove down from Frederick and we all met at a farm owned by Chuck's wife Amy's father on the eastern shore.  We're not quite sure how Joyce managed to get him there without figuring anything out, but she did.  He was quite surprised.  Everyone enjoyed a huge pot luck feast, then some sat by the fire while others played horse shoes, and threw the football around.  We finished the afternoon with a drive to Sheldon and Joyce's new home in Delaware which is all but completed.  The house is quite large on a beautiful level lot.  They expect to be moved in by years end.

Megan And Broderick Alley Are Married

Saturday, October 29th, 2005 Miss Megan Miller was married to Mr. Broderick Alley in an outdoor ceremony at Chase Court in Baltimore just after sundown.  The courtyard was beautifully decorated and located between to churches a few blocks north of the downtown area.  Megan, in traditional Miller fashion, was about 30 minutes late getting to the alter, but she made it.

Directly following the ceremony, family and friends went inside the former rectory building for a buffet style dinner and dancing which lasted well into the evening.  Highlights of the evening included a fine example of Irish dancing by Megan's best friend Cindy's husband.  Meanwhile nephew Corey was the hit of the dance floor.  Imagine what he'll be like when he's older than eight.

Instead of the traditional honeymoon Megan and Broderick opted to spend the week after the ceremony moving to their new home in Ford City, Pennsylvania, only a block away from best friend Cindy.  Best of luck to the happy couple.

Debra's Miller

In case you don't know Debra prefers to spend her birthdays at the beach.  This year was no different, except that we decided to make it a day trip this time.  We arrived early enough to enjoy lunch at Big Peckers then do some shopping along the boardwalk.  Later we had our yearly game of mini-golf.  She keeps getting closer but hasn't won yet.  We topped the day off with a beef rib dinner at J.R.'s Ribs.

We finished off our weekend the next day with a trip to see the Bowie Baysox play at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.  We sat right behind home plate, and enjoyed everything but the final score.  Bowie lost.

Debra started the year as a temp working for T.S.I. and for much of the year was assigned to Winchester Construction.  In the fall Winchester offered Debra a full time position, which she declined.  Almost simultaneously PCS Homes offered her a much superior position in Accounts Payable at their Millersville location, which she accepted.  Thus Debra finishes 2005 with a new higher paying job, but little vacation time.  We will have to plan accordingly.

Andrew, Samantha and Amy Winland Visit

July 7th, Amy Winland arrived with her children Samantha and Andrew.  These two just keep getting bigger and smarter each year.  Debra is so proud.  At 3 Andrew seems to have mastered the use of the backyard swing.  He's quite a nice boy too.  Meanwhile Samantha at age 6 is reading years ahead of her grade level.  And who is her favorite person in the whole world?  Grandma Debbie of course.  Samantha obviously has good taste.

4th Of July

Debra set her sights on having a 4th of July picnic at our house this year.  Unfortunately most of our friends had family commitments or other plans.  However Ray and Linda Lemar joined us for a pleasant afternoon of food and conversation, and the weather was beautiful.  We took in fireworks as usual with Jill, Jason, Corey and Lindsey who's townhouse is very close to the fireworks site at Bowie's 'Alan Pond'.

Doris, Sarge, Glen And Patty Visit

In May, Debra's mother Doris and husband Sarge came for a weekend visit.  Since they seldom get the chance to come north from their Myrtle Beach home, Debbie decided to invite her sister Pat and her husband Glen down for a nice family dinner.  Everyone had plenty of good food and good times.

Christopher Winland

Debra's son Christopher, who's new business partnership of last year looked so promising, has gone back to work for his former employer Magenic.  Apparently things didn't work out and as a result Chris has been spending much of his time in 2005 flying back and forth from Georgia to New Jersey, while doing considerable work for a client there.  We hope his next assignment is closer to home.

Eddie Haber Comes North (Finally)

After visiting Florida for the Super Bowl South in March, Keith's volleyball buddy Eddie, who has been promising to come up for the Superbowl of Volleyball for years, showed up for a completely unrelated visit.  Hey, we will take a visit from Eddie any way we can get one.  PS: His dog was nice too.

Unfortunately in September when Eddie was due up for volleyball, he was in the hospital for testing.  The doctors decided to treat him with medication this time.  So he's feeling good now, and hopefully 2006 is the year he comes up for Volleyball Superbowl in September.

Debra's Cousin Brian's Wedding

When Debra was young, the family used to visit regularly with cousins Brian and Brenda who live in Michigan.  So when we received a wedding invitation from Brian, who now resides in Tennessee, Debbie couldn't resist.  So we took a vacation day, and drove to the Knoxville area for the wedding.

Good thing we did.  Beside sister Brenda, we were the only family he had in attendance.  It wasn't a big wedding, but the church was both huge and beautiful.  The reception was held on site, where we had the chance to visit quite a bit with Brenda and her boyfriend.  Seems she caught the bouquet, he got the garter, and now we hear they are engaged.  Way to go Brenda!

Jason Miller

Late in the year Jason resigned from his mechanics position with Sheehy Dodge to become the senior mechanic at Enterprise Shell in Lanham.  It was more money with no Saturday hours, and he just couldn't turn it down.

Keith Gets Even Older

Yes the rumors are true, Keith reached 58 on April 6, 2005.  Given the alternative Keith was quite happy about living so long, and was glad to spend the event having dinner with son Jason and family.  We ate, then retired downstairs to a demonstration of videogame prowess by Jason and Corey.  Lindsey just keeps getting bigger and more cute.

Kimberly Winland

We haven't seen much of Kim in 2005.  She was living with a room mate in Laurel.  However after some problems with the arrangement, Kim has returned to living in Shady Side, Maryland.  We hope to see her more in the upcoming year.

March Trip To Florida

Due to some amazing good luck, we were given round trip tickets on Independence Air to anywhere they flew.  We decided to go to the Super Bowl South volleyball tournament at Lake Como near Tampa, held in March.  Debra's former boss at Coca Cola, Jamie had given us an open invitation to visit.  Her home was beautiful, located within a gated community in Riverside, Florida.  Too bad it wasn't warm enough to use the pool.  We couldn't have been treated better.

Meanwhile we showed up just quickly enough on Friday for Keith to get involved in the day's fours tournament.  They came in second in their bracket.  It was amazing how many of our friends were on hand for the tournament.  It seemed we knew almost everyone.  Keith's team didn't win anything, but the trip was fun, and the weather was beautiful.

A week after we arrived home, we were visited by Tom and Diane, whom we had spent time with in Florida.  It seems they were taking a more leisurely trip north, and were nice enough to spend the night with us on their way through town to their home in Loch Raven, Pennsylvania.  Tom, an old Penn State buddy of Keith's, is retired.  He and Diane are planning to spend several months in Florda this winter.
