Bahamas VacationMarch 23-30, 2003 Arden's sister Heather invited us along on her trip to the Bahamas, where she wanted to do some genealogy research, and escape from the extra-long Chicago winter.
At the flamingo show at the Ardastra Zoo in Nassau, the flamingos march and change directions on command.
Arden and I took a day trip on a boat to a little island, Saddle Cay in the Exuma chain, where we did some snorkeling, fed a stingray, and wandered on a sandbar.
The boat excursion also made a quick stop on Allan's Cay, where the iguanas came out on the beach to greet the boat.
The iguanas dash up to grab grapes, which you put on the end of a stick so they don't take any fingers along with the grape.
Part of a Junkanoo costume, at the Doongalik gallery in Nassau.
Arden sampled a typical local breakfast, Stew Fish.
Arden at Versailles Gardens on Paradise Island. The Cloisters at the top of the hill was moved from France by William Randolph Hearst for his castle in California, but it didn't come with assembly instructions, so he eventually sold it.
We flew to the island of Eleuthera to meet some 3rd cousins that Heather found while doing genealogy research.
The tombstone of Arden and Heather's great-great-great grandfather, in Governors Harbour, Eleuthera.
We explored Hatchet Bay Cave, Eleuthera, but didn't see the leaf-nosed bats, except for a brief glimpse of something flying by.
After returning to Nassau for our last night in the Bahamas, this is the view from our hotel on our last night in the Bahamas, as the cruise ships leave Nassau at sunset.
