In the name of God,Amen. I, John Edwards of Orange County, state of North Caroline, being very aged and infirm, but of sound and disposing mind and memory, thanks be to God, but reflecting on the uncertainty of human life, and that all mankind must die, do hereby make and ordain this, my last will and testament, hereby revoking and disannulling allformer wills and testaments heretofore made by me. Imprimis, I recommend my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of myExecutors. My will is that all my just debts be first paid. Item, my will is that I lend to my beloved wife, Mary Edwards.all my estate, real and personal, during her natural life, and her bed that she lies on, to dispose of to who she pleases, under the care of my executors, and after her death, I give and bequeath to my son, John Edwards , ten shillings. Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter, Suannah Odeam, ten shillings. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mary Campbell, ten shillings. Item, I give and bequeath to my son, David Edwards, to his children, one negro boy named Tom, to be equally divided. Item, I give and bequeath to my son, William Edwards, to his children, one negro named Sam, to be equally divided. One negro woman named Boniah, I set free to live among my children. Item, I give and bequeath to my son, Henry Edwards, five negroes named, Jack and Charles and Edy and Dinia and Saul. I give and bequeath to my son, Henry Edwards one negro man named jons, and all my land and stocks of all kinds, and also my household goods and chatels, and all my working tools, and also my son, Henry Edwrds is to pay all my just debts that may be demanded of my estate. And lastley, I constitute and appoint my beloved son, Henry Edwards and Zachfield Brewer, Executors of this, my last will and testament, hereby revoking all othe wills heretofore made by me. Records show that sons, Richard and Seth were kill
ed in battle , they were Torries. Even though there isn't anything on record, brothers, Edward and David also died in 1782, they were probably also Torries....?????
The following info has been proven John Edwards 1695-1801 settled in Kings William Co., Va. Moved toOrange Co., NC in 1763 with wife Mary. Will was probated in Orange Co., NC 1818 John was 105 yrs old. at the time of his death. Children mentioned in "will" were:

There's a chance that John 's wife was a Campbell not Stokes or he married twice..

May 1766 Orange CO. N.C.-Mary Rigsby, 8yrs old, with Phillemon Edwards, Adjudged father was bound over to John Campbell and Mary his wife. Phillemon would be Mary Edwards Campbell's Uncle. (John 1710 brother)
There are some researchers that say that John married a Mary Campbell or Jackson, but they have been unable to show any proof. For now, Stokes stays.....................
