My introduction to Christianity

It was a Saturday when had put our son and daughter on a plane to Utah. They were going down to visit their Grandmother for the week. We had decided to attend a Christian church service while the kids were gone, and we knew where to go.

My sister and her family had moved up from Utah and bought a house in Silver Firs, about two miles east of Silver Lake Chapel (Now All Nations Christian Center). It seemed like every time we had driven by that church the parking lot was full. Curiosity had gotten the best of us.

You would have to go to a Mormon Church service to appreciate how shocked we were when the services started that Sunday morning. First the band. Drums, guitars, trumpets, violins, the works. They started playing. Then people started singing, lifting their hands and clapping and all that. A pause; One of the leaders got up and I knew, right away, that we were in cult worship. I mean this guy looked like someone who could assist Jim Jones.

We smirked when they passed the offering plate around. Sat on our hands when the Communion was offered. and in general. waited for things to end so we could leave. Then Pastor Art Sather stood and started preaching. Now you have got to realize this is the first time I have heard a non-Mormon leader preaching. I know, a lot of you do not believe in God. Well, I thought I did but on this particular Sunday I began wondering just what god had I believed in for the past 43 years.
