A fall hike to Tamolitch Falls

(also known as Blue Pool)

Near Carmen Diversion Reservoir the McKenzie River disappears. As a result of old lava flows, the river percolates downward to flow underground for 3 miles. At Blue Pool the river reappears with crystal clarity. The McKenzie River trail provides easy access to this marelvous site.

From downstream the pool lies about 2 miles away while from upstream (at Carmen Diversion) it is a mere 3 mile jaunt. Betsy (daughter) and I took the trail from further downstream just to get a better stretch of the legs.

The trail'sdifferent looks as we progressed

The McKenzie River

Just had to throw these in taken during a winter

Snowshoes are advised This is near the pool.

Coming up to the pool. You can see to the bottom due to the clarity.

and a look down stream from the falls. There is no waterfall except in extremely wet times.

The fall colors are wonderful

A photo op for Betsy and one for me

Continuing up the trail from the pool you'll cross an old river bed; come to Koosah & Sahalie Falls; more river; and Clear Lake. The trail goes beyond the lake but that is for another time.
