Notes on some of the pictures:
Bay Farm Island has two operation consoles. One controls Traffic Warning, Gates and the Barrier System. The second releases the lock that holds the bridge in place and the big handles raise the bridge at various speeds. The Main Drive Motor is 50 Hp. Using the catwalk you can walk under the Roadway. This is how we do maintenance under the roadway. The Counterweight at Bay Farm is huge and weights many tons. There are cover plates that that can be removed to add or remove weight. From the catwalk it's about a 60 foot drop to the pit floor! The actual moveable roadway span is about 100 feet. The Trunion Bearings are probably the most important item for maintenance. These must be kept lubricated. If these bearing were to ever fail it would be a major problem.
