The Cap'n |
This is by far the most comprehensive and feature
packed navigational software available. I've been using the Cap'n since 1994 and can
attest to its utility and capability. |
 |
Navik Self Steerer |
The Navik self steerer is from Scanmar Marine,
manufacturers of the famous Monitor Wind Vane. The Navik is lighter, smaller, and in fact
much more sensitive than its big sister. Mine has been in faithful service since 1987. |
 |
BSB Electronic Charts |
BSB recently merged with Maptech, the other major
supplier of navigational charts on CD-ROM (raster format). For technical reasons the BSB
charts offer slightly better resolution. The Maptech charts, however, offer much broader
geographic coverage. |

Switlik
Life Rafts |
For my money (and life rafts are quite expensive),
the Switlik raft is at the top of the heap. I carry a 4 person "coastal" model
that exceeds the specifications of most other manufacturers' "offshore"
versions. |
 |
Bluewater Books and Charts |
There are many suppliers of books, charts, and
software and I've tried most. Bluewater has consistently provided good service, advice,
and delivery. |
 |
Toucan Communications |
"Toco" is my mail service. Sailors
themselves, Mark and Judy offer a variety of services to the cruising sailor. They are
presently building a 40 foot catamaran. |
 |
Island Hopping |
This is Steve Pavlidis' home on the Web. Steve is
the author of several authoritative cruising guides for the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos
islands, and other tropical locales. His pages have many useful references and some
interesting photos. |
