Hi--

I have made digest03 available. Email to millerm@halcyon.com with SUBJECT = Kersey:CMD:GET digest03.txt will result in a copy of the week's mail being sent to you. I forwarded this to Dr. Kearsey to bring him up to speed on our discussions.

Thanks for all the great information and offer of help. I think in the very near future I may ask you for some as you certainly are a wonderful resource. Do you know why "A" was added to the name?

I got a real kick just reading about the information you were providing Dr. Kearsey in hopes of being able to dig up more. I had heard that the Kerseys settled in County Wexford. Anyone know of any definite Kersey "settlements" in Ireland and where?

Hi folks--

Just some reminders and suggestions for using the list:

1. Any mail with "Kersey:" in the subject goes to the whole list. The "Kersey:" doesn't have to be the first thing.

2. When you answer a posting in the list, it's a good idea not to repeat the whole posting in your reply. There gets to be quite an echo. ;-)

3. Please be patient. The list is run from my personal PC, not a server that runs continuously. So the mail only gets processed a couple of times a day when I check my e-mail.

Hope you are enjoying this as much as I am,

The first two sections of Laurence T. Kersey's book, "The Kersey Family, About Three Centuries of Genealogy and Reminiscence" are available. Send email to millerm@halcyon.com with SUBJECT="Kersey:CMD:GET ltk01.txt" and "Kersey:CMD:GET ltk02.txt" to get the files mailed to you. They are plain ASCII text. If you use Notepad to view them, be sure to set word wrap.

I tried to maintain the spelling, etc. in the original document.

Hope you enjoy the book,

go directly to:

Marv,

Thanks for the digest etc. Multiple file attachments are a pain to unwrap, but I managed it. Single files are automatically downloaded and uncoded.

The digest has inspired me to put up my web pages. The first is:

members.aol.com/HKearsey/index.htm

I hope to put this on when I send this e-mail. After looking at your web page I will add a link. Unfortunately I was unable to contact your web site either yesterday or today.

A second "page" contains the history of the Oxfordshire Kersey families.

If you read the Oxfordshire KERSEY history pages you will see why it is virtually impossible for Sharon to be related to most of you or me.

If it all works you can circulate that it is available.

I am suspicious of the claimed connection with the mathematician and lexographer, but you never know.

I have a copy of John KERSEY sen. book dated 1658. It was given to me by the antiquarian bookseller that my wife, Jean, worked for. The book describes mathematics as I was taught, not as they do it nowadays! I have seen a copy of John KERSEY jun. dictionary at the Society of Genealogists.

Yours,

Hugh

I have come across some Kearseys.

Ohio State Pen.

John, Julia, Mary, Martha, Rebecca, Worthington. It appears that they were imprisoned at the same time. I show Worthington Kearsey living in Crawford Co., Ohio when he died on 7-14-1875, he was m. to a Mary or Martha. His brother was John Burwick Kearsey and his sisters were Rebecca and Julia A. Any links?

It's been a little quite in the discussion group, don't you think? Why don't I throw something on the table for us to discuss? For starters, I think it is great of Marv to have started this Kersey group. Researching the Kersey tree is very addicting, but can be lonely at times. For example.... when I was told about the Kersey line being traced back to the year 1616 I was so excited I just had to tell someone. I told my husband who tried to act interested, but he is a Maines; it just isn't as rewarding to him. I know that I am not the only one of us with puzzle pieces, so why don't we post some here and there and see who has the missing link.

Here is one of my puzzle pieces:

FANNY KERSEY was a mail order bride to DIXIE COLUMBUS BRANNAN in Ok. during the late 1800s. She is reported to have been a full blooded Choctaw that was marched from MS to OK. She settled around Enid,OK or Hill City,KS. Any matches?

One more thing... I am having the hardest time finding a genealogy program the I like. What works for you?

I'm using the Mormon Church PAF, but want to get a good look at Family Tree because I like their print outs much better, includes more information in a descendancy chart. I, too, would like to hear about pluses and minuses of the various genealogy software programs.

Please look at my Kersey Researchers Page and the Kerseys I have found including many from this discussion group.

I, too, want to thank Marv. This is great!!!!! And I really appreciate all your work!

No matches with OK as yet, but you never can tell what will happen next.

Re. the program, I am using FamilyTreemaker. I bought it because it was one of the most popular. Frankly, I don't like it because you can't dump reports and other stuff easily to a txt file (much less link with Microsoft word). This frustrates me considerably and I will happily replace it with the first program that allows descent interface. What is everyone else using?

A couple of months ago I found some popular genealogy programs to download. Demoware of course. Gene 4.1 was one of them. Out of the four I tried it was the best. It still isn't even close to being what I need, so I'm not about to buy it. Reunion 4.0 was another, it has more options, but too many are diabled on the demo version to know if it is what I need. Heritage 2.17 sucks, I won't even go there. FamilyData is freeware. The creator did'nt finish the program so he offers it for free. I liked it okay, but it is very generic and prone to crashes. There was another one, I don't recall the name, but I could'nt even launch it w/out my computer crashing. I tossed it. Since Marv has the largest amount of Kersey info that I've seen, I'd be interested in hearing his best and worst picks. Hint, Hint.
