Hi --
I'm the wrong person to ask for comparisons of genealogy software. I'm
happily using Family Tree Maker 2.0. I also use Brother's Keeper because
of some of the report functions and because it's easier to export partial
databases. But I'm a make-do sort of guy, not very picky, happy with what
I am used to.
I'm excited by the Kersey web page additions. Pretty soon we can start a
Kersey ring.
I hope to get a couple more sections of the L.T. Kersey book out this
weekend.

I wrote my own programme about 10 years ago, but it relied on dot matrix
printers to draw the trees properly. It is very dated, but I haven't had
time to rewrite it or find anything better. One came very close, shareware.
Called WinGenea. It prints trees just as I like them, but the only problem
for me was that as I wanted to keep my IDs, I had to input 6000 entries
before I could print out my first full tree!

While surfing the web a while ago I came across another puzzle piece. I would
love to be able to fink this one to the tree.
The web address:
http://www.kcpl.lib.mo.us/sc/bio/coates.htmIt says that Kersey COATES (b.9-15-1823 d.4-24-1887) was born to a wealthy
quaker family in PA where he practiced law. He died leaving an estate of 2
million dollars.
I am sure that he is related to:
Jesse Kersey (b.8-25-1768) m. Elizabeth Coates (on 5-26-1790)
Her parents: Moses COATES & Mary VICKERS
I am hoping that someone has the answer.

Jane,
I have just looked at your web page. The colours are great, but when printed
black and white, not so good. The Header names come out all faint.
The last para under Marvin Miller, appears to be attributable to me, but it
is not. My view is that most KERSEY families originated in England.
It might be useful to provide a link under my name to my web pages:
About me and background to KE(A)RSEY families in England
members.aol.com/HKearsey/index.htm
History of the Oxfordshire families
members.aol.com/HKearsey/oxon.htm
Like your page, I hope my pages will be equally useful and interesting to
KERSEY researchers.
I am putting the history as web pages as it is just as easy to print them as
from an attachment.

I personally reviewed the will of Eleazer Kersey in Raleigh this week.
Here is what I found, but I did not transcribe the entire will:
Eleazar Kersey was born 27 August 1762, (Rowan County at that
time); died 1 June 1816,[note 1] at Springfield. The will was probated
before the August court, 1816. His chidren were Stephen, William, Enoch,
Jesse, Eleazer, Elizabeth, Alice, (Beeson), and Esther (Wolfington)
Kersey. Moses Kersey, born 6 September 1806, was the son of Eleazer
Kersey and his wife Elizabeth Harlan, both members of New Garden Meeting
before 1794. The children of Eleazar Kersey, including Moses, were
received on request of their father at Springfield Monthly Meeting 3
October 1801. Eleazer Kersey named his brother-in-law Stephen Harlan,
wife Elizabeth, and son Stephen Kersey executors.

probated Aug. 1816).
Note 2: Source: Same as above, plus Hinshaw, Vol. 1, p. 889.
Eleazer Kersey is also mentioned in the book:
"Fred Hughes, "Guilford County, N.C.: a map supplement, pp. 71, 77, and
83.
PP. 71 and 77 tell that Eleazer Jr was a builder (stone mason) and he
built several prominent structures in the early-to mid 1830s.
