Hi-
To introduce myself, a friend of mine found your web page and send in my subscription. I was very pleased to find you, although I have not done any real searching beyond asking family for more information (which is sketchy, at best). I will not be of much help in terms of what I have but perhaps pieces of my history will fill in others empty spaces. My maiden name is Bonnie Jean Kersey. My father is Harold Julius Kersey, born 09/26/1921. He had a sister Dora Kersey and a brother Seymour Kersey. Their father, my paternal grandfather, was Herbert Kersey born in 1867 at Petries Corners, NY, which is not far from Watertown, NY. He died on 02/27/1968. His father, my great grandfather, was Leander Kersey. I do not know where or what date he was born, but family lore has it that he also was born at Petries Corner, NY. There are cousins of this family that spell their name Curci, why the name change I don't know, my grandfather would only say that they were "just no good" whatever that meant. My grandfather was a farmer and a blacksmith. I am just looking for more information in general beyond what I know and what better place to start!

Hi Alice--
Finally a query I can help with! My web page has quite a bit on both ancestors and descendants of your Thomas Kersey, starting at
http://www.halcyon.com/millerm/html/d0001/g0000042.htm#I1078.I have Mary Carter who married Daniel Kersey (that is my line) but not Elizabeth Carter who married James Kersey. I would be interested in your sources.

Hi Patricia--
The L. T. Kersey book is mostly about the North Carolina and Indiana Quaker Kerseys. The segments should come across as plain text with no unzipping necessary. I take it the "Keirsey, Kiersey, Kersey" book deals more with your VA/TN lines? Is the book still available?

Marv, I was wondering if you might tell me if the L. T. Kersey book, "The Kersey Family, About Three Centuries of Genealogy and Reminiscence" deals mainly with the Kersey families from NC, IN. I would appreciate knowing. I hadn't requested the installments you had for this book since I didn't know. My Kerseys were from VA to TN.
Also I didn't know what form you sent them in. I can't unzip files as
yet. I can download plain text and print from Word Perfect. I would
appreciate the information. Thank you so much. By the way the
2nd book on your list from yesterday----Martha Keirsey Cooper's book,
"Keirsey, Kiersey, Kersey" is really an excellent one. I was
fortunate to have gotten one from her. It has lots of information
in it. THANKS!! Patricia Henry

Thanks Marv for your answer on the L. T. Kersey book. No, Martha Keirsey Cooper's book deals with VA, NC, MO--very little on TN. About the only way to find out if it's available is to write her at her home address: 321 S. Charles, Maryville MO 64468. She's a very delightful lady who is always glad to help. Patricia Henry

I was asked to send information from my earlier posting----Apr. 30th----concerning my GG Grandfather GEORGE MADISON KERSEY. I'm looking for information about his parents, siblings, birthplace in VA or anything anyone knows would help greatly. Information I have is as follows: His birthdate is questionable. All the census records, land records, land bounty papers,, war records indicate he would have been b. @1787, but his tombstone says 1791.
George Madison Kersey, farmer, b. 1787/1791 ? in VA (Co. unknown), d.
9 Sept. 1863 in Sebastian Co. AR.
.
He m. his first wife LUCY BROCK @
1810 in TN. They had 3 sons----Isaac b. in Bledsoe Co. TN, David b.
in Franklin Co TN, and Thomas J. in Davidson Co. TN. Lucy d.
@1826. He then m. my GG Grandmother ELIZABETH GILLIAM 20 Dec. 1831 in Jackson Co. AL.
George was in the War of 1812 in New Orleans under Andrew Jackson. He enlisted in Knoxville TN. While enlisted his name was listed as GEORGE CASEY and GEORGE KERSEY. George and Elizabeth lived in Jackson Co. AL a few years, moved to Franklin Co. TN for a short time then moved into Marion Co. TN. They were there in the 1850 census.
Around 1855 they moved to Sebastian Co. AR. Their children were: William M., Arthur L. (my G Grandfather), Jasper N., Susan Paralee, George Washington, Marion (male), Martha Ann, and Tennessee Pauline. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
