> ++++++++Hi: My name is Jean Raymond Hoffman. My brother and sister-in-law (Bud & Jan Raymond, Tulsa, OK) are researching our family tree. They are the ones who have family trees, etc. On a visit there this summer, I got into "genealogy" and told them I would try my hand on netscape. I have written a little about my great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Kersey to someone on the "net" but since I am a complete novice, I don't know if you got that info or not. Anyway, I'll repeat what I know. Our grandmother(Martha [Molly] Kersey Vaughn) was a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Kersey. We know he enlisted in the Confederate Army in Georgia as a young man. At the time, he thought his name was Frank Kersey, but when he returned from the war he discovered a family bible which listed him as Benjamin Franklin. He states that his parents died when he was young. (My brother has a copy of an affidavit which he swore to--when he was applying for a Civil War Vets' pension, I think.) Anyway, he apparently moved from Georgia to Tennessee and eventually to Texas where he is buried. My brother visited the grave a few months ago. We know that he was married first to a Martha (Molly) Vaughn (apparently she named her daughter after herself) and then my grandmother Molly married a cousin Robert Vaughn. Consequently, my great grandmother was Molly Vaughn Kersey and my grandmother (her daughter) was Molly Kersey Vaughn. It was reported to us that there was a lot of cousins marrying cousins, plus a lot of double cousins in the family. B.F.'s second wife was a young girl many years his junior--perhaps as young as 15. Her name is reported to be Pasha. They had two children--one died in infancy and one survived named Ezra. Anything you might have I would like to hear.
My brother is trying to trace B.F.'s parents or grandparents--perhaps some of your Kerseys were his ancestors.

Enough similarites with the BF, Martha, and right age for Civil War that I decided to post just in case this matches Nancy's Benjamin Franklin KERSEY.

Subject: Kersey tree for framing
Dear all,
I have been working on an Anthony Kersey - Alice Fenimore family tree in color, "suitable for framing" as the saying goes. It is now available as is, 30" x 30", at $40. The printing company gets $25, the post office gets $2-3, and the compiler, me, gets the rest. I broke it down so you know that I'm not charging an outrageous price. I've already put about 50 hours into this project. I welcome any new lines to add to what I already have, and will keep the original updated as fast as I get new information. For every new name that you contribute, I can give a $0.10 discount, that includes the first order for any other Kersey tree also, which I'll have to start from ground zero.
The trees will be printed in full color on bond, and shipped rolled. I have added symbols to such people as I have information for like: doctor, soldier, farmer, poet, clergyman etc. Since this is a Kersey tree, I have followed only the male descendents who retain the name, although all Kersey females' husbands names are shown, if I know then.
I will grow your own personal ALL ancestor trees for printing for you also, but you must have already done your research. I charge the same for printing and shipping these, but my fee becomes $0.25 per name, $25.00 minimum. I will show only direct ancestors or all siblings, your choice. I can show multiple spouses and their children. Any tree that is big enough to need a second sheet will incur double printing costs. My own personal tree is at 9 generations (only 79 to go!), siblings and multiple marriages included, to date and has filled about half a sheet with the lettering at 0.05", if this too small for you to read, I can make it bigger, but of course, that takes up more space. I need from you a GEDCOM file, with notes if you have them so I'll know what symbols to add to whom.
As I am just starting this and have no idea what my workload will be, I will keep you updated as to your place in line, and projected time of completion.
Please email me directly if you are interested.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I would be interested in your source for Lois Speakman. How does Hugh Harry fit in your line? I have him as the father of Lois Harris (Harry). I have the father of John Kersey who married Lois as John Kersey who married Johanna Beasley. I have developed doubts about this and need to recheck sources. I think there may be confusion here with the English John Kerseys -- the mathematician and the lexicographer. I don't think it has been shown that the two English John Kerseys have any relationship to the American Quaker John Kerseys, other than family legends.

My name is Bonnie Arbuthnot. I am searching for any information about Martha Jane KERSEY who married Jo(h)nathan Denney b. 28 Jan. 1831 in West Elkton, Preble Co., Ohio, and lived in Appanoose County, Iowa, in the 1850's - 1860's?. Johnathan died 21 Jan 1869 was buried in Appanoose Co. It is my belief that they had 6 children; Viola V. b. ca 1857; Emma E. b. ca Nov 1859; William Henry b. 15 Jan 1862 in Centerville, Appanoose Co. d. 26 May 1933 in Springfield, Baca Co., CO;
Hannah R. b, between 1863 and 1867; Mary E. b. between 1863 and 1867; and Alva Alonzo b. 24 July 1868 in Appanoose Co. d. 30 Aug. 1932 in Springfield, Baca Co., CO.
According to the Death Cert of William Henry, Martha Jane KERSEY was b. in NC. Since Johnathan was relatively young when he died and all of the children were minors, Martha Jane may have remarried? I would appreciate any information about Martha Jane, the four female children, her parents or siblings. I will share what little information I have. Anyone have any connections?
Thanks in advance.
Bonnie

Just yesterday I reviewed the 1820 Preble County census. There were several Talbot, KERSEY, and Mendenhalls there. One Nathan GIFFORD (later married Sarah Ricks) was there, too. Shubal DENNY married a Mendenhall, and Shubal later bought some land from Jonathan RICKS, who also married a MENDENHALL. Here is the Denny record:
Denny, Shubal |M |1830 |Marr |001 |199 |Mendenhall,
Margaret |Pr
To locate other DENNY records (many) indexed for Miami Valley area, Ohio, check the Preble County site below:
http://www.pcdl.lib.oh.us/miami/index.htmThere were several Kerseys on the index, but none lived in Preble County. That is strange, because I saw the name on the census.

I'm interested in finding the surname & parentage for their son Eli's wife Sarah (Crouse, Croze, Gause?). Eli & Sarah have a marr bond on file in Guilford Co but it was signed supposedly by an Emsley Crouse?? (name hard to read according to person publishing this record). The marr bond is dated 26 Aug 1826. I know the Kerseys were Quakers. Eli & Sarah moved on to IN where she is listed as joining the Quakers in 1840 at Spiceland MM Henry Co IN.

Marv,
Saw the name HIATT and found I have a few married into a distant CHENOWETH line of mine. Thought I'd post what I have there as my KERSEY line joins the CHENOWETH line.
I have Alvin L HIATT m 1885 to Cora Viola CHENOWETH b 1868--she is actually the author of one of the CHENOWETH family books. George HIATT m Eva DAVIS and had children Herbert Cyril and Howard. Herbert Cyril HIATT m Chloe LUMPKIN and had children Eva Rebecca and George. Howard m Dorothy THOMAS.
My Catherine KERSEY (1808-1897) m John P CHENOWETH (1804-1874). Catherine's parents were John KERSEY (1764-1852) and Lucretia HUTCHERSON (1764-1840). Believe John's parents were Thomas KERSEY and Elizabeth of Nicholas County, Kentucky. Thomas' parents were John KERSEY d 1791 and Ursula.

Hi Everyone - My earliest Kersey is John marr Lois HARRY. I descend thru their son William b 1720/1725 who marr (possible #2 wife) Hannah HUNT. My line continues thru their son Daniel b 6 Jan 1757/8 (New Garden MM Guilford Co NC) Daniel m Mary CARTER abt 25 Jan 1778/9 (Cane Creek MM Orange Co NC). Their son William Kersey b 27 Oct 1781 who marr Rachel HIATT 5 Feb 1800 (New Garden MM Guilford Co NC). Their son Eli b 6 Apr 1804 marr Sarah CROUSE(?) abr 28 Aug 1826 (date of marr bond Guilford Co NC). My line continues w/ their daughter Minerva Jane Kersey who marr Edward Jordan KIRK in Porter Co IN & they move on to Jasper Co IN where my line continues to son Albert Edward Kirk, then Hazel Kirk who marr Elmer STEPHENSON (my grandfather).
Question: Is Sarah's last name really Crouse & is her father really Emsley. The only reference I've ever found on her maiden name is from a reference to the marriage bond where the reader tried to make out the last name & decided it might be Crouse & also an Emsley signed the bond but the relationship was not listed. Sarah & Eli moved on to Wayne Co then Henry Co then Porter Co IN. Eli was disciplined for his "marriage out of unity" in Dec 1826 & Sarah is listed in the minutes in Spiceland MM in Henry Co IN in 1840 where she is "received in membership".
