Hi Pat--
I have Sally Kersey and Daniel Walls on my web page because I found their marriage record on Family Tree Maker Marriage Bundle CD#2. There is no more information about them on the CD.
I have been adding Kersey information from our discussion list to my database so that I could be on the lookout for matches as I am researching. I didn't really think about it, but that data will show up on my web page as I update it. I'd be happy to add any Kersey information you like. Or I would also be glad to help you, or anyone else in the group, to set up a page. It's not very hard.

Marv, I noticed on your Web Page under Index of Individuals a
listing for Sally Kersey m. 7 Sept 1839 in Franklin Co TN to
Daniel Walls. She is believed to be a daughter of my GG Grandfather
George Madison Kersey and his first wife Lucy Brock. Was it
submitted by someone? If so I was wondering who it might be so I
could maybe contact them. Or was it something you might have found
in TN marriage records and put it in the list yourself?
Also I wondered how I go about submitting other members of my
Kersey family to the Index of Individuals? I have information on
some of the other children of Geo. M. Kersey, especially my
G Grandfather Arthur L Kersey and his children etc.
Thanks, Pat Henry

For those of you just starting out wih family research as I am, you might try
out this online service, there is a free data (plus many others you can
subscribe to) base that provides birth/death dates and social security
numbers in order to assist with your research. The database is not without
its flaws, of course, and some of those you may be looking for would have not
have had a social security number. You should Yahoo or use another search
engine to search Social Security Master Death Index as it will yield other
similar data bases and tips on what other databases you can access for a fee.
As I am just starting out, I am pleased with what I have been able to
accomplish online.
Also, doing a search with the keyword being "genealogy" will also give you a chance to explore all the available historical societies and helpful institutions in the state you are conducting your research in.
Good luck.
Nancy
I forgot to at least give the URL for the main database I spoke about:
http:// webols.everton.com/ssmdi/html
As I said, doing a search with an engine will take you to other databases.

Peggy -- I don't know why that happened when you looked because there were
slews of them when I have looked over the past few months. I have actually
used their free online access to the Social Security Master Index File (which

Hi Doris--
Sorry for the misunderstanding. No one wants you to unsubscribe. Let's see if I can explain what happened. First a group member sent a message to get a directory of available files. That's the "Kersey: CMD:DIR" message. For some reason the list server software didn't recognize it as a command message. Instead it sent a copy to everyone as if if were a regular group message. All of the group messages have a trailer at the bottom that tells you how to unsubscribe if you want. As there wasn't any text in this message, the trailer looks like the message and ends up sounding like you are supposed to unsubscribe. I'm not sure why the DIR command isn't working. I'll try to intercept those manually until I figure it out. Again, I am sorry for the confusion. We certainly want you to stay in the group. I hope you are feeling better.

There are several "commands" available:
"Kersey:CMD:SUBSCRIBE" - subscribes you to the mailing list.
"Kersey:CMD:UNSUBSCRIBE" - unsubscribes you from the mailing list.
"Kersey:CMD:SUBSCRIBE DIGEST" - subscribes you to the digest(digest mode is not available yet, for now this command will operate the same as SUBSCRIBE)
"Kersey:CMD:UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST" - unsubscribes you from the digest (not available yet, operates the same as UNSUBSCRIBE)
"Kersey:CMD:WHO" - sends you a list of currently active list and digest members.
"Kersey:CMD:HELP" - sends you a help file about using the list. So far the help file is the same as this welcome message. I will add to it as necessary.
"Kersey:CMD:DIR" - sends a directory of files available for download. I intend to archive digests of the discussion group and possibly other stuff. There are currently 10 digests and 12 chapters of L.T. Kersey's book available for download.
"Kersey:CMD:GET filename" - sends a file from the directory obtained by DIR. Only one file per request. This must be typed as shown, with a space after the GET.
Hope this helps,

Here is the information I have on the death date for William Kersey. It is from a loose sheet labeled "Excerpt from the data on the Hunt family by Edna Harvey Joseph" which was sent to me several years ago.
III Hannah Hunt, b. 11-20-1730,
m. as second wife William Kersey, b. 1722, d. 11-20-1764 NG p72
son of John & Lois
(brought a certificate from Fairfax Mtg Va. dated 6-24-1758
received 10-28-1758 NG Min. p138)
NG = New Garden Friends Meeting, Guilford Co., NC
It's a start, but I have not seen the original Hunt family data, nor have I seen the New Garden minutes.

Thank you for your response, Marv.
What I plan to do is consult Hinshaw's several Quaker volumes and Week's book on the Quakers to construct the family group sheet. I'll include all information gleaned from the several meetings in Virginia, NC, Ohio, and Ind. That survey and group sheet about the William Kersey family will be in my book when published.
I've got to do this in order to understand the family and their movements. It is already apparent that Daniel Kersey married twice and perhaps had children by both wives. He moved first to Miami Valley, Ohio, about 1805 but returned to Springfield a few years later. Thomas Ricks and his family moved to the Miami Valley area later, and it is quite possible that Daniel's reconnaissance reports helped in that move (probably sparked their interest, too).
Thomas Kersey moved to Indiana in 1811, and he later moved to Clinton County, Ohio. There were Rickses there, too. It is a very interesting history of these several children of William Kersey and (second wife) Hannah Hunt. Hinshaw gives this family good coverage in his abstracts, but I am certain there are many more undiscovered bits of family information and history in the actual records (I just don't have time to gather them before I publish). I found this to be true in my search of records at Guilford College. In fact, my survey of the women's meeting records for information about Gwin Ricks resulted in additional information not previously known about several Kersey men and women. I have included an abstract of those entries in a concise about Gwin's history within the women's meeting.
What I'm saying here is that many researchers are content to accept all that is printed in abstracts. An abstract is mostly a finding aid, but frequently the abstract contains all the useful genealogical information. This is definitely not true of the Quaker abstracts. I encourage anyone researching the Kersey family to obtain the original records AND to review the records of known associates.
One fact stands out about William Kersey: There are no female children shown in his list of children. Why? That is a puzzle, and I searched for an answer (besides there just not being any) to determine if Gwin Ricks was a Kersey. No closure on that subject. Thomas witnessed Jonas Ricks' will; Daniel took an active part in the marriage of Edward Ricks, and Gwin associated closely in the women's meeting with Hannah and the other wives of Kersey men. I really wish someone had done a primary research report on this Kersey family.
Sorry for the long message.

Halifax MM, Va., has the first record of William Kersey being there,
probably, before 1749 (Hinshaw, Vol. VI, p. 524). His wife Elizabeth
died before that year, and William was an overseer of Monoquesy
Preparative Meeting, Maryland. Their son William Kersey Jr. was born in
1745, and it is likely they were in the Quaker church by at that event.
I haven't seen anything on the Monoquesy meeting to confirm the earliest date. Weeks does not mention such a meeting in his book. The earliest dated record for New Garden MM, Guilford Co., N. C., shows William and family arriving on certificate from Halifax MM 28 October 1758.

Re: William Kersey,
This is also the first that I have heard of Quakers in the Kersey line. I
know there are in the Buffum line. Where do you find this info? My Kersey's
all seem to come from the Carolinas. I know they all originated from the Isle
of Kersey in England, The Buffum Family also came from England. Could they
have been Quakers when coming to the Colonies? ( The Kersey's )

Hi,
My name is kathleen Lommel and I have just joined this mailing list. My
family come from around the Stratford on Avon area of England. However,
as this is in the corner of Warwickshire they tended to move between
Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire, My great grandmother
was Harriett Casey who married William Harris in 1830. Her father was
George Casey married to Anne Trotman in 1802. His father was Robert
Kasey who lived in Wixford at the time of his marriage to Anne Jackson
in 1779. He had been married before but I can find no record of the
marriage so suspect he may not originally have been from this area. The
name has been spelled in a dozen different ways - Kasey, Kersey, Casey
Keasey, Kearsey. Any help would be appreceiated and of course if I have
any information that may prove useful to others I am very willing to
share this.
Kathleen.

Hi Doris--
At least part of the problem is that I have been out of town for the last week. The list is run from my home PC, so if I am not here to log on, nothing happens. We should be back to normal now. I'm glad that at least someone noticed that the list wasn't working. ;-)

thanks for the e-mail. I was worried about the Kersey List, but more worried
about my e-mail ingeneral I have just upgraded my computer, and printer. Was
afraid I was doing something wrong. I wasn't getting any e-mail, and yours
was coming back to me. Hope you had a good vacation. Glad to see you back
though. I do appreciate your hard work in keeping the list going through
your PC. I have found three cousins through this list. One lives right here
