Marve,
I don't know how you connect with the Kersey's, but I have a Benjamin Franklin Miller who was a twin born Dec 31, 1852 in Camden Wilcox County Alabama. Married Arcephus Virginia Kersey ( Seaf ) Aug 1872. His father was Francis Marion Miller, his mother was Sarah Gasten Miller . This line goes back to William Jasper Kersey who was my gggrandfather Steven's son, and brother to my greatgrandfather. Ben F. Kersey.
Is there a connection? The twin died, don't know if it was male or female.

Hi Doris--
Thanks for the info. I don't think there is a connection but it's worth a look. My Kerseys are on my mother's side and of course Miller is on my father's. But I have always been on the lookout for a connection. They both have Quaker ancestors, and there are Millers way back on my mother's side in Pennsylvania. Just to make sure I have things straight:
Archephus was the daughter of William Jasper Kersey?
Steven's wife was Mary Peace?
Gasten was Sarah's maiden name?
Enough questions.
Thanks again,
Marv

thanks for being so prompt with answer to my e-mail!
The answer to all of your questions is Yes.
Arcephus was daughter of W. Jasper Kersey. W. Jasper was first born son of
Steven and Mary Peace Kersey.
Ben and Arcephus Miller had 10 children. All born in Alabama. Ben's father
and mother were. F.M. and Sarah ( Gastin ) Miller.

Has anyone found any of their Kersey ancestors also listed by the
surnames of Casey or Caisey? I have found a number of Kerseys also
using Casey/Caisey interchangeably.
Some time ago I wrote to the list asking about information
concerning a Pleasant Kersey (male) in Jackson Co AL @ 1820-1830. I
have some new information about him. He was also known by the surname
Casey in Jackson Co.
I feel quite sure there was a connection to my GG Grandfather
George Madison Kersey. I am still trying to find information about
him----parents, siblings etc.
My reason for feeling there is a connection is as follows:
In Jackson Co AL Pleasant Casey d. 9 Nov 1827. A month
after his death his horse, saddle, and bridle were sold there to
George M. Casey/Caisey (my GG grandfather George Madison Kersey).
In 1830 Jackson Co. census my GG grandfather was
listed as George M. Casey. He was still in that county in 1840 and
listed as George Kirzey ( probably the census takers mispelling of
the name).
From there on he used the surname Kersey.
George is listed in the War of 1812 records (by Virgil
White) under both Casey and Kersey.
Does anyone have any information about Pleasant or George under either or both of the names??? Or has anyone run into the use of Casey/Caisey/Kersey.

This is a repeat of the information found at the Ricks Home Page:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1948/prepub.htmThe Descendants of Jonas Ricks and Other Ricks Families in America.
This long awaited book is now at the printing plant and should be available in mid January. It contains 254 pages of well organized text that includes a table of contents, eleven chapters, one appendix, and a huge, four-column index. It is formatted to be an 8 1/2 X 11 inch book, printed on acid free paper, with a hard-cover that includes imitation gold foil stamped lettering on the cover and spine. It will be an heirloom!
In order to present an enourmous amount of information, there is no wasted white space; and there are no cute line art charts, and no photographs. Within are family traditions, extensive and fully explained research results, and pertinent material from credible publications presented in proper context. There are several blank family group sheets at the end of certain chapters (placed on the left side where a blank page frequently appears before the start of a new chapter) for entering your family information.
The price for this book is $25, which includes shipping and handling costs. That is a very low price for such a book (but reasonable in view of my stated goal). For comparison, check out the price for similar books at the following web site: (URL available at the Ricks Home Page) genealogy books for sale .
After publication, those with internet access can use the guestbook entry form at the Ricks Home Page to comment about the book and its contents.

We have been doing a small amount of research on the Kersey family as part of
looking at the Wingrove family. I am descended from Thomas Wingrove (born 1843
in Camden Town, London) and his sister Eliza Mary Wingrove (born 1846 in
Camden Town,London) married James Alfred Kersey in Limehouse Middx in 1863. I
believe that James Kersey was part of a large family from Limehouse and his
father Alfred was a waterman (for example a bargee). Checking the 1881 census
it seems there were Kerseys in Suffolk and I thought that perhaps this Kersey
family had migrated round from the East Anglian coast and up the Thames into
Limehouse. There certainly used to be water traffic round the coast and into
London until recent times.
James and Eliza had a very large family and we have done research on some of
them.
Also, one of Thomas Wingrove's sons (Alfred Wingrove, b 1878 in Bow,London)
went to India where he was a train driver, as was his father and uncle James
Kersey. He married Elizabeth Helen Kersey in India in 1907. She was the
daughter of Thomas Kersey (another train driver) and we believe that she was
born in India in about 1882. It seems possible that James and Thomas Kersey
were related but we haven't yet confirmed this. Otherwise this is just a very
big co-incidence.
Also, James and Eliza had a son, Thomas Alfred Kersey (1867-1930) who was
born in Bromley by Bow, Middlesex and died in Chinnor, Oxfordshire.
We look forward to hearing from you on this.

The existance of information concerning slaves is not always certain.
First, a person had to own slaves. The record of ownership,
distribution, sale or transfer of a slave will mostly be found in court,
deed, probate, and tax records. Slave census records contain
inconsistent information, mostly given names. You must be prepared to
review these records closely and personally, because not all
transcribers or abstractors took time to identify slaves fully or

I will admit it. I have found the Kersey name in several Black Histories. One
is Angela Waltons Page here on Aol. It is The African American Native
Geneology Homepage.
The Kersey name is listed in the Black Chickasaws, and the Seminole's . I
can't prove nor disprove that my heritage lies there. I also am at a wall. My
ggreat grandfather Steven A. Kersey was supposedly an Indian, adopted by a
White man named Kersey who lived in S.C. Kersey educated him to be a doctor.
All of my census data leans toward the Black Indian. Among the Seminoles the
Leader Osceola had an African wife. Steven had a grandson named Osceola! It's
a puzzle that gets more complicated as I research. I found the Kersey name in
the Archives in Texas. Harjo Parhos of the Oksoke Harjo Band ( Seminole )
Father was named Fuscher Barkus ( Barkus was Black ) His mother is listed as
Kersey of the Okoske Harjo Band . However he is listed as full blood indian.
He was born in1852.
This info came from the Daws Roll , Seminole Nation 1897.
Anybody have a clue? I first found Steven in 1850 in Alabama. He married a
Mary Melinda Peace. Steven named several of his children Indian names.
Steven's son, my great grandfather Benjamin F. Kersey fought in the 56th
Alabama Cavalry CSA.
I would appreciate any help also.

Hi Nancy--
Your information seems to tie together a number of miscellaneous scraps that I have been carrying on my web page. I have inserted my comments in brackets below.
Does anyone know anything about David Kersey m. Susan Daniels 1/22/1829
>in Vigo County, Indiana
>or
>Meredith P Kersey M. Polly J. Pullian 24 Jan 1828 Jefferson County,Ind.?
>
>I have some information that I found on a trip to Western Kentucky
University several years ago. I hope it helps you.
Meredith Kersey Born Va. May 26th 1769
Married Jan. 23 1794
Spouse Lucy Pulliam Born Jan. 1777
Children:
Mary Simms Kersey Born Feb. 5th 1795 Md. David Y. Jackson
[I show a marriage record from Garrard Co., Kentucky for Mary S. Kersey and Martin Jackson, 22 Dec 1817]
Robert Kersey Born Nov. 10 1797 Died Seop. 10 1816
Eliza Kersey Born Oct. 11 1799 Married David Jameson
Twins Born Aug. 23rd 1801
Lucy Kersey Born Nov. 9th 1802 Married Barnet MOore
[I show a marriage record from Garrard Co., Kentucky for Lucy Kersey and Bennett Moore, 2 Dec 1822]
Meredith Price Born Nov. 11th 1805
[I show a marriage record from Jefferson Co., Indiana for Meredith P. Kersey and Polly J. Pullian, 24 Jan 1828.]
William Montgomery Born Nov.16th 1809 Md. Anne Brown (b.5-10-1808 d.6-21-1887)
[I show a marriage record from Garrard Co., Kentucky for William M. Kersey and Anne Brown 2 Aug 1830]
Louise Fletcher Born Oct. 11 1809 Married John Scott
[I show a marriage record from Jessamine Co., Kentucky for Louise Kersey and John Scott, 19 Sep 1827.]
Elizabeth Asbury Born Sept 7th 1811 Died July 27th 1817
Martha Ann Born Nov. 15th 1813 Married Clayton Hocker
[I show a marriage record from Garrard Co. Kentucky for Martha Ann Kersey and Clayton Hocker, 28 May 1838]
Zorada Wesley Born Aug 22nd 1815 Married Larkin Fain
[I show a marriage record from Jessamine Co., Kentucky for Zorada W. Kersey and Larkin Fain, 23 Sep 1844. Without the middle name Wesley I guessed wrong and recorded Larkin as the husband and Zorada as the wife!!]
Jane Simpson Born May 31st 1818 Married James Carter
Maria C. Born Nov. 18th 1820 Died Dec 15th 1821
The above was copied form records written by gr.gr. father of Eliza Kersey Jameson. Copied from an old Bible in my possession. Lula Nooe Scott Buena Vista, Garrard Co. Ky.
Garrard and Jessamine are adjacent counties in Kentucky. Jefferson County Indiana is less than 100 miles away on the Kentucky-Indiana border. All the ages match nicely. I submit for the group's consideration that all these marriage records pertain to the same family and in answer to Peggy's original question, Meredith P. Kersey who married Polly Pullian was, in fact, Meredith Price Kersey, son of Meredith Kersey and Lucy Pulliam.
Further speculation: Polly Pullian was probably a close cousin of Meredith P. on his mother's side.
Happy New Year,
Marv
