What started me wondering about William Keirsey and Sally (Sarah) was

seeing your URLs III on Feb 15th. I had for a number of years tried

to find information on Lucinda Susan Kersey (m. to Paul Chiles). I

felt there was a possible connection to my GG Grandfather George M.

Kersey b. @ 1787 in VA, later was in TN. So when I saw your

information on Lucinda S. Kersey, JohnKeirsey,etc. I came to the

conclusion that my Geo M. and Lucinda were not brother and sister, so

I decided to look into the siblings of John Keirsey to see what

connection I might find, since I'm not making any progress on finding

the parents of my Geo. M. Kersey.

You mentioned in your posting Sat. that it sounded a lot like the beginnings of Linda's Kersey line so I did some checking on the lines.

Using Martha K. Cooper's book I came up with this:

I stumbled onto a bit of news about the Kersey name and the Chickasaws I can't

It lists Colbert-Kersey

The only thing that I can figure out is Colbert was a Chief, and married a

Kersey. This is on the 1818 Chickasaw Census Roll.

Can anyone help me decipher this ?

Hi Doris--

It looks like there was a Chickasaw chief by the name of Levi Colbert whose father was white and whose mother was Indian. The 1818 census also lists a Kersey Colbert in close proximity to Levi but does not state what the relationship was. I couldn't find anything on these pages refering to anyone with the surname of Kersey.

Unfortunately I don't have further information on the Kersey family. The Collins family was located in North Carolina before their move to Madison Co., KY. The information in the database

came from an LDS submission. Will gladly keep an eye open on my next trip to my local FHC

thanks for looking that up for me. See this is what I have been running into.

I believe there has to be a connection somewhere for someone to have named

thier child Kersey Colbert. The Surname Kersey is definately listed in the

Chickasaws. Thanks to Angela Walton, I found it listed in her book under the

Chickasaw Tribe. However I have found it listed in the Seminoles as well.

I almost feel like giving up. I probably should give it a rest for a while,

then maybe I will be able to see the forrest, for the trees.

It's getting to the point where I am getting frustrated with it.

Is there anyone out there that has Kersey's that moved from North Florida

around Madison and Jefferson counties to Indian River County, Brevard (before

it was St. Lucie) or Quay, Florida? I know all of the Kersey's there did not

I do appreciate your reply about the Kersey marriages. You did help, it

had my great grandfather on there with both of his marriages. By some chance

do you have madison county? That is where my grandparents should have been

married. His name was Berton Belancy Kersey (he went by the middle initial of

K) b. 4 April 1872 and he marroed Edna beulah Bishop b. 24 Nov. 1873. If you

could help with this I would appreciate this.

Today I got my Steven's Alabama land records from someone on the net. Needless to say, I was elated! I have ordered the SC<AL<GA marraige records CD. Will be glad to share if I find anyones on there.
