Dear Edward:
Thank you so much for the information you provided re Jesse Kersey. My
ancestor, apparently named after him and not a relative, was born in 1798,
which would fit in the time period.
Now we have one less mystery to worry about in the family tree.

Marv,
What started me wondering about William Keirsey and Sally (Sarah) was
seeing your URLs III on Feb 15th. I had for a number of years tried
to find information on Lucinda Susan Kersey (m. to Paul Chiles). I
felt there was a possible connection to my GG Grandfather George M.
Kersey b. @ 1787 in VA, later was in TN. So when I saw your
information on Lucinda S. Kersey, JohnKeirsey, etc. I came to the
conclusion that my Geo M. and Lucinda were not brother and sister, so
I decided to look into the siblings of John Keirsey to see what
connection I might find, since I'm not making any progress on finding
the parents of my Geo. M. Kersey.
You mentioned in your posting Sat. that it sounded a lot like the beginnings of Linda's Kersey line so I did some checking on the lines.
Using Martha K. Cooper's book I came up with this:
I. JOHN KEIRSEY
b.@1700, d.1791, m. to Ursulachildren from will record:
THOMAS b. @1725, d.1796, m Lucy (Lucinda)
John
b.@1725-30, d. 1812, m. Eleanor RobinsonElizabeth-no information, did not marry
Drury, b.1753, d. 1850, m.in 1779 to Patience
Nunnelly
II THOMAS (above) b. 1725 d.1796 Charlotte Co VA
m. Lucy @1750
children in Thomas' will dated 1790:
WILLIAM
b.@1750-55, m. Sally (Sarah)JOHN b. 1757/58 m. Frances Hazelwood moved
to Warren Co TN ?dau Lucinda Susan Kersey?
Thomas
Richard m Lettie Worthy
Isaac m. Nancy Rudder
daughters: Mary, Agnes, Sarah, Susannah
I may be wrong but I believe Linda's
line was:
John Keirsey and Ursula's son John
(THOMAS'
brother) who was b@ 1725-30, d.1812
in NC, m.
Eleanor Robinson. One of their
children was Thomas
b. @1750,
d.@1805, m. to Elizabeth. So that was the connection of the lines that I came up
with. If it's wrong somewhere please let me know.
If anyone comes up with anything
about William and
Sally (Sarah) let me know. I'm
still trying to make
a connection somewhere to my GG
Grandfather Geo.
M. Kersey, but I seem to come up against blank walls. Thanks
Pat

Thank you for replying so promptly with address on how to get the book. I will
enquire right away and see if there's one left.
I stumbled onto a bit of news about the Kersey name and the Chickasaws I can't
figure it out. Here's the address if anyone wants to try.
It lists Colbert-Kersey
First People of Tennessee
http://www.Tngenweb.usist.com/tnfirst/index.htmlthe other is
http://www.flash.net~Kma/The only thing that I can figure out is Colbert was a Chief, and married a
Kersey. This is on the 1818 Chickasaw Census Roll.
Can anyone help me decipher this ?

Hi Doris--
I checked out the pages that you mentioned. The URL is
http://www.tngenweb.usit.com/tnfirst/index.html.It looks like there was a Chickasaw chief by the name of Levi Colbert whose father was white and whose mother was Indian. The 1818 census also lists a Kersey Colbert in close proximity to Levi but does not state what the relationship was. I couldn't find anything on these pages refering to anyone with the surname of Kersey.
Hope this helps,
Marv

Hi folks--
We have over 50 of us on the list now! It seems there are a lot of new and old members we haven't heard from and some of us old members haven't posted our lines for quite awhile. So I thought it would be a good idea if we all posted or reposted the lines we are researching. I'll start ;-)
Elizabeth Kersey (1847-1900) m. 1869 Jesse D. Thompson (1837-1928)
Asher Kersey (1807-1902) m. 1834 Edith Schooley (1818-1858)
William Kersey (1781-1844) m. 1800 Rachel Hiatt (1781-1868)
Daniel Kersey (1757-1835) m. 1778 Mary Carter (1761-1781)
William Kersey (1722-1764) m. 1748 Hannah Hunt (1730 - )
John Kersey (c1700- ) m. Lois Harry/Harris (c1700 - )
I am interested in information on any ancestors or descendants of this line. More generally, I am interested in acting as a clearinghouse for any Kersey, Keirsey, Kiersey, Kearsey... information, either by adding it directly to my web page, adding links to my page, adding other pages to the Kersey ring (which by the way has so far met with deafening silence), or posting it to this list.
Hope to hear from y'all soon,
Marv

Marv,
thanks for looking that up for me. See this is what I have been running into.
I believe there has to be a connection somewhere for someone to have named
thier child Kersey Colbert. The Surname Kersey is definately listed in the
Chickasaws. Thanks to Angela Walton, I found it listed in her book under the
Chickasaw Tribe. However I have found it listed in the Seminoles as well.
I almost feel like giving up. I probably should give it a rest for a while,
then maybe I will be able to see the forrest, for the trees.
It's getting to the point where I am getting frustrated with it.
