Date: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 17:41:54 EST From: LKMCHMRCM <LKMCHMRCM@aol.com> Subject: Kersey relatives What a discovery!! I was THRILLED to find so much information on my paternal grandparents and families. Thomas Crittenton Kersey and Laura Eliza Barrs were my paternal grandparents. (note--his birthday was Jan 2, 1905, vs. Jan 24.--my father was very quick to point that out!) I have not been able to determine exactly HOW we are related...haven't taken the time to track it all through. Don't have much time right now, but wanted to send a note of appreciation for putting all the info out there. (by the way, what sources did you use to track that line?) I'm just getting started on tracking our family tree. I had gotten several of the names from my grandmother before her death in 1996, so I was able to verify some of the info. Please use my email address--lmccane@juno.com if you respond. This AOL address is just a temporary...using a 30 day trial. thanks. Lori Kersey McCane Jacksonville, FL

Date: Fri, 3 Apr 1998 11:42:55 EST From: Kerseyjr <Kerseyjr@aol.com> Subject: Kersey family The discussion group has been very idle lately so I guess it is time for me to get involved. I learned of the group about a month or two ago from Vi Gee. Her grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. Our branch came from Owens Co. Ky. Three brothers and their mother moved to southern Kansas around 1885-86 and then made the land rush into Indian territory(Okla.) in 1893 settleing near Fairview, Major Co. The three bros. were John Thomas(Vi's grandfather), Goldsmith and Russell Hill(my grandfather) Their mother was Delilah Jones. All members staked claims near Fairview and farmed around there for years. The father was William Marion Kersey, born around 1840 and died in may 1875 in Owens Co. Ky. His father was Hickman Kersey 1804-1867-68. We think his father was Clayborn or Cliborn Kersey but we have no solid information on this and maybe someone online can help, also the brother Goldsmith (Goldie or Golda) died one year after staking his claim at the age of 23 in Hennessey, Okla. So far I have been unable to locate any information on him concerning burial site, obituary, etc. I have enjoyed reading all the correspondence from the group even though I haven't spotted any of my group and would appreciate any help on this linage. Keep up the good work. Earl B. Kersey

I went to John Gorrie Jr. High with some Kersey kids. I don't know if they were kin or not. Back then I didn't care. I am wondering if Lori is kin to any of the Kersey's that went there, then ? thanks Doris Buffum

In case anyone had trouble with the attachment, I have made it available through the GET command. Just send email to millerm@halcyon.com with SUBJECT set to "Kersey:CMD:GET Elliott.txt" (without the quotes, but with the capitalization and spacing exactly as shown). One minor footnote: I have a data of 28 May 1863 for Abigail Kersey's death. I am struggling to find my source. I thought it was L.T. Kersey's book, but I can't find it there this morning. Date: Sun, 5 Apr 1998 10:20:15 -0700 From: Marv Miller <millerm@halcyon.com> Subject: RE: Kersey: Abigail Kersey and Peter Elliott Hi folks-- Regarding the death date for Abigail Kersey: 1. Beverly Yount, "Quaker Families, Miscellaneous and Sundry" lists the date as 5-28-1860. That doesn't line up well with Abigail and Peter's fourth child being born 23 May 1863 ;-) 2. L.T. Kersey's Family Tree (from the Allen County Public Library, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, #1907170), lists the death date as 5-28-1863. This seems to me to make a lot of sense. The fourth child was born on the 23rd and died on the 24th. Apparently, the mother did not survive either. All too common an occurrence, given the state of medical care at the time. My grandmother knows where the cemetery is so once the weather warms up a little more, we will head over there and check it out. #11. RE: Nancy Kersey - from Marv Miller

Date: Sun, 5 Apr 1998 13:22:04 -0700 From: Marv Miller <millerm@halcyon.com> Subject: RE: Nancy Kersey Hi Tom and Evaleen-- Thanks for the reply. I forwarded your message to the Kersey Discussion List but I haven't heard anything yet. If I were you, I would pursue that census lead. It wouldn't be surprising if her sister weren't there when the census was taken, and the mother's name could be a nickname, a mistake, or you might have the wrong name. I have two Kersey marriages in Johnson Co. that would be about the right time to be Nancy's parents. One is Solomon Kersey married Lucy C. Rowland, 15 Jan 1872. This Solomon may be the Solomon son of John D. Kersey and Mary Ann Bivins who was born c1854 in neighboring Emanuel Co. The second marriage is James D. Kersey to Malinda J. N. Rowland 8 May 1872. I have no evidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be two Kersey brothers marrying two Rowland sisters. Hope this helps, Marv millerm@halcyon.com http://www.halcyon.com/millerm ---------- From: Tom Futch[SMTP:TomFutch@aol.com] Sent: Friday, March 27, 1998 7:41 PM To: millerm@halcyon.com Subject: Re: Kersey Hi Marv ! .... My grandmother was Nancy Kersey and she married Howard Madison Roberts. We thought we had found them at one time as we were working with a Census and found a Kersey with the same name and birthday as my grandmother. The only problem was the family did not have the right mother or my grandmother's sister. What a bummer that was. They were married in Johnson Co., Ga. .... Yours Truly, Tom & Evaleen
