Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 06:16:53 -0500 From: Julia Kersey Brewer <juliab@flash.net> Subject: Re-Headed Kersey To Kathy Kersey Phipps, My g-grandfather was b. 1843 in Newton Co. Ga. His parents died when he was young. I know he had other relatives there who probably raised him. He went by Frank until after the Civil War when he ran across a family bible that gave his real name as Benjamin Franklin. He joined the Civil War in Jonesboro. I can't help but think that some of the soldiers in his company must have been relatives. Thank you for any help you can give. Julia

My thoughts : George Kersey came from Hanover County, VA to Louisa County in 1765 and purchased land. He was at that time considered to be one of the largest landowners in Virginia so presumably still held property in Hanover County. The Thomas Kersey who witnessed the deed in 1765 may have been the brother of George Kersey. - or a cousin ? . Thomas was the father of Clayboarn Kersey who married Elizabeth Edwards in 1793. This at least takes you back one generation and then you may need to look in Hanover County for earlier generations. Louisa County was a part of adajcent Hanover County until about 1741. Either George or Thomas may be my ancestor. my ancestor .

#11. Robert Kersey - from Joe Kersey

Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 21:01:31 -0500 From: "Joe Kersey" <jakersey@erols.com> Subject: Robert Kersey The 1860 Census of Upson County, Georgia shows the following informaton on Robert Kersey: Robert Kersey was born in Virginia about 1802. He apparently migrated fro Virginia to Georgia with a stop-over in South Caroline. He married his wife, Sarah in South Carolina and had one child while living in South Carolina. This child , named Betie, was born about 1839. After arriving in Georgia he and his wife had 13 more children. Most of these children grew up and remained in Georgia. However two of their children migrated to Arkansas after the Civil War. They werre Bettie Kersey Jones and William Kersey. His wife is unknown. My father corresponded periodically during the 1930's with a cousin named Alice Porter. She was probably the granddaughter of William Kersey. Another son, Isaac Kersey (wife Ann Kennedy) probably moved to Texas at some time after the Civil War. I don't know whether Mary Wolfe (my niece) has reported this to the net but anyone who can identify Robert Kersey in Virginia would help in tracing my family tree. Joe Kersey Arlington, Va.

For example Banister Kersey. Does your listing only go in descending order timewise? When I clicked on Banister I expected to see the listing of his children I had provided from the census record in Randolph County Ga. One of his children was also named Banister so I expected to see two Banister Kerseys listed. I obviously need some education here.
