Date: Sun, 26 Jul 1998 12:36:04 EDT From: PETENOEL@aol.com Subject: Re: Kersey surname listings Hi Marv....I haven't had a chance to check to see if the Florida Banister is the same as the Randolph County Banister Kersey. I've posted this info in so many places I guess I forgot to post the whole ball of wax to the Kersey listings so here goes: 1830 census, Banister Kearsey, Houston County, Ga page 290 Banister aged 20-30 1 f aged 20-30 2 f under 5 1 m under 5 Bannister Kersey in the 1840 census for Randolph County Ga, pg 181 Bannister as head of household 1 person aged 40-50 (must have been Bannister) 1 m aged 10-15 1 m aged 5-10 1 f aged 40-50 (must have been wife #1 Nancy Lawhorne (Lawhone?) 1 f aged 10-15 1 f aged 5-10 1 f aged 1-5 Bannister not there in the 1850 census, so could be the same one as found in Florida in 1850. I'll be checking the microfilm in a week or two. Bannister Kersey in the 1860 census for Randolph County Ga, pg 68 Bannister 63, as head of household with: Sarah 40 housekeeper Angenina 24 f William 18 m (my great grandfather) Bannister 15 m Joseph 13 m Nancy 12 f Cornelia 8 f Cynthia 5 f PS: listed in the FTM as Karsey, but a close look at the microfilm shows it should have been Kersey. 1870 census Randolph County, Ga page 311 Bannister Kersey head of household, age 70 Sarah age 49 housekeeper Cornelia f 18 Matilda f 16 I haven't confirmed this to be my William Kersey but: 21 Oct 1861 William Kersey 3rd Cpl, 2nd Brigade, Magnolia Rifles from Randolph County Ga, discharged Dec 15, 1861. From "A Source Book on Early History of Cuthbert and Randolph County, Ga." by Annette McDonald Saurez, Cherokee Publishing Co, 1982. According to family records Bannister's father was Elijy (Elijah?) and I have found no record of him anywhere as yet. I think I have already posted all of William's kids on the Kersey list. Hope this sparks some additional info from someone, or helps someone with info they've been seeking. Pete Noel

They had one child in South Carolina, Bettie, and then moved to Upson County, Georgia. They had 13 other children. The following is some pertinewnt information about their family. Mary Kersey Baker, daughter, married Ransom Baker Coon Baker, son Liza Baker, daughter Most of the above children remained in Georgia during their lifetime. Two of the children, Bettie and William moved to Arkansas after the Civil War. James Kersey moved to Alabama and settled near Atalla. A lot of the above is based on memory but it is the best we have now.

(born in Fl) Kaitha (f) age 11 The slave schedule for Jefferson county lists Banister as owning one male black slave, aged 13. Banister owned real estate valued at $1,800. Additional information: Possibly have found Banister's father in Guilford County, N.C. Census 1790 Eleazor Kersey head of household with one white male under 16 and three white females, no slaves The spelling is different, family memories say first name was Elijy, but we all know what census takers did with name spellings and we all know how suspect family memories are. Anyone have info on this Eleazor Kersey in Guilford county, NC?

I just sent the same information that he had sent. Maybe I added some more to it. He has a good memory. I tried to send it before you were gone, but that was about the time my computer went down, and it didn't get sent. Georgia Kerseys: Newton County Can anyone give evidence that Robert and Sarah Kersey may have lived in Newton Co GA? This will help Julia kersey as well as myself. Let us know. #20. Kersey: FW: Small correction - from Marv Miller

---------- From: Julia Brewer[SMTP:juliab@flash.net] Sent: Monday, August 03, 1998 6:08 PM To: Kersey List Subject: Small correction This is a small correction to BUFFUM's notes on my g-grandfather Benjmin Franklin KERSEY: Benjamin died in Collinsville, Tx. John Thomas also died there. My uncle said he was NOT stingy but a very kind and gentle man. Child #5 was Roy Lee KERSEY b. Van Alsyne Tx m. Ollie MAULDIN had 13 children and was never divorced. He died in Whitesboro, Tx in a farming accident...this is my grandfather. Their children were: Vivian, Velma, Ora, Eula May, Mable, Grace (still living), Delbert, Mitch, Leon, James (still living),Robert, Charles (my father) and Anita (still living). Thank you, Doris, for re-posting this. I am still looking for B.F.'s and Martha's parents. Because B.F.'s parents died when he was young, I feel a relative must have raised him. He had red hair, was tall and my uncle said he was Irish. I know there are lots of KERSEYs around Ga and believe some were his kin. Another clue was that he may have had a sister who married and moved to Oklahoma. My Aunt told the story that her father, Lee Roy KERSEY's cousin was with the sherrif's dept in OK and was killed by Bonnie and Clyde. My aunt said he was quite handsome and he had visited her father two weeks before he was murdered.
