As you know my part of the Kersey Family all settled in Manatee County with the exception of Benjamin. The names that he lists, and the Indain part all sound familiar ( don't they ). I beleive that Ed just might be a brach off of Stephen. Will have to get more information from him, before I can say. I need Ed to contact me, and we can work on it. Of course the Indian part, I am still working on. If Ed is decended from the same line that I am, then , there is another Kersey with the Indian Story ! I sure would love to either prove or disprove it! Doris

I kept rolling the name Sheffield around in my head. Last night I found a piece of paper that my uncle had given me years ago. All it had on it was; John Sheffield married Melbert ( Melba ? ) Kersey and they had a son named John Louis Sheffield, who married Caroline Albritton. It had no dates, and the only reason that I am send it is, to let Ed and Almeta know that they probably are kin to the Sheffields, like someone told them. That's ll of the information that I had on that. So I probably am kin to then also. Doris

Kersey Uriah Kersey Arrah Kersey Some of these names, like Amos M Kersey and Welthey Kersey, are names I have seen in families in Virginia...I have tried to make that link but haven't succeeded. I have the REV war records on James Kersey/Susannah Bell....But no help...I have a copy of a land transaction between James Kersey to Ninty Kersey(1818) and then Ninty and Alfred Kersey to Rowland Mesces (1826)....It's the same land, each time, 108 acres...previously being part of 5,000 acres originally granted to John Willis and Jacob Rhodes, Dec 26, 1794. Alfred Kersey left North Carolina, about 1833, for Georgia....His family settled in Lee Co, GA, where he died in May 1880...Margaret Kersey died 02-18-1886 in Lee Co, GA ....... Does anyone have a list of James/Susannah Bell Kersey's children, if there were any? I have been reading about Bannister Kersey from several people on your list, but one caught my eye the other day....I believe it said that Bannister Kersey was said to have been in Lee Co, Ga.....Has this been established?.......I have not seen this name but could have overlooked it....... Thanks for any help anyone can provide, Lynda Kite.....Ga

August 24, 1981 I received a letter from Pamela N. Gibson of the Eaton Florida History Room, Manatee, County Central Library. I won't write the whole letter but will write what she say's about the Kersey Family. " Doris, I did find the Kersey's in a few places ". The 1896 Directory lists a family at the town of Rye, on the Manatee River. The 1916 County Directory , page 242 lists two families in the town of Parrish, they are H. Austin Kersey ( farmer ) and Effie. Joseph Tally. Kersey and wife Mary. The Book To Pioneer Baptist, a history of the Gillette First Baptist Church, by Mavis R. Snell, lists a Ben L. and Francis Kersey on page 134. G.B. Kersey on page 152, Mrs. Lois ( Charles ) Kersey page 243 , and Ramona Kersey page 194. The index to the Florida Census 1830 lists James Kersey as living in Jefferson County. 1840 Fla Census lists ; Bud Kersey in Gadsden Co, James Kersey in Leon County, and William Kersey in Jefferson County. The 1850 Florida Census lists ; Bannister, James, Tilman, and William Kersey living in Jefferson County, and Cader Kersey living in Wakulla Co. There were no Kerseys listed on the 1860 Manatee County Census. This was the first Census after Manatee was split from Hillsborough County. Pamela Gibson. _________________________________________________________________I I know this is an old letter, and doubt very seriously that Pam Gibson is still there. I thought someone might clear up a puzzle from it . I think that the family in the town of Rye just might be my Stephen and his family ? That's where they settled after leaving Alabama ( on the Manatee River ). I have a book of stories written by one of Stephen's granddaughters . The stories discuss this River in detail. This is where Mary Kersey, Stephen's wife was killed and buried along side of the River. John Tally Kersey is Stephen's son and Austin is his grandson. Don't want to bore anyone. So somebody stop me if I am sending too much ! I have a Room full to share. Doris
